Default very low speed fall

ya, so tonight im turning around in a bank parking lot and when I came to the entrance of it again it was on a hill somewhat and somehow I was lookin to my left at the car coming and before I know it either my foot let out or something happen when I was stopped and the bike fell over. I think the bike started to roll forward and I lost my footing but it happen so fast my first reaction was to jump off rather then get my foot or anything else crushed so down she went but luckly my bar ends saved the fairing and just busted my front brake lever off. I managed to get the bike back up on its side with some hulk strength and a pulled lower back lol. Oh well the bikes fine, just was tuff riding home with rear brake only but I managed to be able to grab a little bit of the brake lever that still remained to stop the front somewhat. Not sure how it all happen but I think its cause I only had my one foot down on the right side instead of both, its habbit im trying to fix. Also I was tired which didnt help the strength and balance.

hmmm. Bikes are most commonly dropped at low speeds or when they're not moving at all. But even someone completely innebriated should be able to pick up a bike effortlessly with the correct technique. I can claim that i'm not he strongest guy in the world, but i've dropped my 500 and picked it up with out trouble. The only time i had trouble was when i was in a sand parking lot in which i could get no grip under my feet (i swung my 250 nighthawk around a corner too fast in sand).

Sorry about the bike though, i hate when anything gets damaged on my bike. I also think the adrenaline rush of having fallen off and nearly ****ting myself about what happened to the bike (nevermind what happened to me) helps when picking it up.

good to hear you got out of harms way too.

ya, I thought about what happen and it was one of those parking lots where its got a dip where the lot and road meet so somehow when I hit it, I lost my balance and then she went over. Ive been in same situation before but when I was moving she was ok, so oh well just gotta learn from my mistakes never to stop in one of those parking lots with the slope and dip and I might have had my bars turned to the one side and on the front brake which made me drop it.

my best fall was in that sand parking lot though. I think i went about 20 around the corner when i should've kept my feet down. O the memories, that was only a year ago.

I completely bent my shifter so it was facing the sky. Kicked it back as close as i could to in place, then bent it back with a pipe wrench. I don't think it could've taken much more stress.

Sorry to hear about the fall. Just glad you and the bike are reasonably OK.

anyone know by hand whats involved putinga new brake lever on, looks like it has a adjustable cable, then a bolt holting it in place. im getting a new one on ebay which is metal-aluminum compaired to the plastic one that snapped off, so this wont be a problem next time unless it bends the lever.

you shouldn't have too much trouble putting it on, but this site has just about everything you need to know on it

It was no problem getting the old one off today, was just a tiny little 10mm nut that secures the pivot bolt in place. Now im curious to what kind of grease to use on the pivot bolt when I put the new one on. I'll put a post up in the mechanics section and see what they have to say.

just go ask one of the mechanics at the dealer. I always do, the ones down here seem to have no problem giving away info on DIY jobs.

sorry to hear about dropping your bike, but it sounds like all is well and you have learned from it. look at the bright side, now you have a metal brake lever instead of a plastic one !
