Default My run-in with the big bad Harley guy...

So I'm coming back from running an errand at lunch and I see a big bagger ahead of me and eventually pull-up in the lane next to him at a stop light. I'm on my Vulcan 900 Custom in full gear (except dress pants) and he's sitting on his big rumbling Harley with no gear, looking like a slightly younger David Crosby with a big tobacco-stained mustache. I flip up my visor and we exchange greetings. He tells me he drove down from Columbus, Ohio yesterday. (We're in Dallas.) I ask him how far. He says a thousand. Light changes, we say our farewells, I pull ahead, he pulls behind me and turns, I wave, we both feel good. My kind of run-in.

Most bikers are decent folks, including the ones that look tough on the outside. Sure, you occationally run into those I'm better than you riders, but I have gotten to know alot of them around my area that look like their in a m/c gang, but are some of the nicest, most easy going people out there.
Can't judge a book by it's cover!

Wow, a thousand miles in one sitting.... I just did a little over 500 round trip over the weekend and my butt and body are a little sore. And that's with a comfortable Mustang seat. I don't know if I could do 1k all at once. That's pretty much iron butt hard corps I'd say. I'm glad the guy was cool. Thanks for sharing.

I was in moab this weekend while the bandidos were there. Most of them were nice as well. There were definitely a few that I thought were going to use me for the metric biker sacrifice.

Maybe it's a geographic thing, but seems maybe some KawiCruisers are defensive about having Japanese bikes. In some parts of the country you see mostly American made vehicles. Here in sunny SoCal, we see all kinds of import vehicles and admire anything well engineered. Not really sure about that because in the Miata forum I used to visit, some Miata drivers were always bagging on the Honda S2K and BMW convertible drivers. Maybe it's just the Hatfields vs. the McCoys thang. We all breath the same air and need to get along, kiddies.

Wow, this turned into an "I love Ohio" thread.

Anyway, I think a lot of times we metric owners maybe think Harley owners are looking down on us when they're not.

Like usual I just ride, and don't have the need to measure me against anyone else at all.............if it is two wheels, it is all good common ground to start the conversation.

Ohio... Ohio... oh right thats where that bad actor Drew Carrey is from. I've noticed that they are called 1%'s for a reason usually 99 out of a 100 bikers i meet are really cool and get along but there is always that one person who ruins it.
