Default I got my bike back!!!! (intact)

Ok, I went to bike night this evening and I took the flyers up there that I made. I handed them out to several people and posted some of them up on the doors and windows of the place I was at. I decided to stop at this local bar to have a beer and drown out my sorrows. I get a phone call from a restricted #. I started to not answer it...but something told me to. It was a dude asking about my bike. He told me that he saw my bike last night! He knows the owner of the shop that got robbed and he was doing a favor for him trying to get that other bike back. *side note...this dude that called me used to be big in the game around here stealing bikes and selling them for $. He doesn't do that anymore b/c his little protégé turned on him after he went off on his own to do some stuff and got caught. Anyway, the young boy turned dude in and he got a huge fine that he is still paying off after a year and a half. My point here is that he knows bikes, done and next.* So, he tells me that he got there and he knew it wasn't the bike that Hovey (shop owner) had him looking for. So, he called Hovey today and asked him if he knew whose bike it was that he saw. Hovey said yeah, but never called him back to give him any more info. Anyway, this guy went over to one of the guys house that I gave a flyer to and that's how he got my #. So, he called the dudes that had my bike and set it up to go buy my bike off them for $800. I called a few guys that I know, they brought the burners and we rolled out!! They went to the house first and I hung back b/c they didn't want me to be right there if anything popped off. So, they finally called me to come thru. When I got there my bike was sitting behind this trailer just the way they took it!!! They were not budging from around my bike though. As I looked around I saw 1 dude had a baseball bat, 1 dude had a crowbar, and 2 dudes had guns. I pulled out the key for my bike and gave it to my friend. He kept trying to reason with the guys to just let us take the bike and leave. They refused and told us to call the cops. So, I did. Next the dude whose house it was....me and him got into it. He kept tryin to negoiate with me b/c I had offered a $400 reward on the flyer. I was like BS...I'll be damned if I am gonna pay you a $1 for my own property!!!! I had a major attitute too....it's a wonder how I didn't get my arse shot or b*tch slapped!!! LOL I kept telling him that a stolen motorcycle on his property is gonna be his azz riding in the back seat of the cop car tonight. He said he would take the charge before he let me take my bike back. Finally the older guys that I had brought with me were able to talk some sense into him and they let me take my bike. It is safe and sound in my in-laws garage!!! I will have full coverage on that thing ASAP and have it locked up in a storage unit around the corner....I WILL NEVER LEAVE IT IN MY DRIVEWAY AGAIN!!!!!!

Yeah, was wondering what happened with the police. Seems they admitted to taking the bike, if my understanding of your story is correct. I am glad it ended the way it did, but you probably should have gone with the police, and not with other people. Things could have been escalated to a very nasty place very quickly.

+1000 Really glad that you got it back, but even more glad that you or anyone else didn't get hurt. Can't say that I wouldn't have done the same thing but it probably would have been better to go in with the cops. Then the guy that had the bike might be behind bars and not accepting stolen bikes again.

Oh, and you did double check the VIN, right?! It'd suck for you to have just stolen back a bike that wasn't yours!

wow!! are you willing to sell the movie rights?!!?!?!

i'm sooo glad you got it back!
Now you've got it back i feel like less of an a$$ when i say: "i can't believe you don't already have theft cover!!!" ... but i guess not everywhere's as risky as London.

So glad to hear all's well and you've got your baby back, and more importantly that no-one got hurt in the process!

Great news to start the weekend with Kat! I'm glad to hear your hard work paid off!

By the way....if you get a wheel lock for the bike you'd probably be ok to keep it at your house. I'd get a bike cover too. it'll help keep it nice and purty as well as keep it more out-of-sight. With the wheel lock, they won't be pushing it down the street!

I'm still grinning about the old 007 movie where the Aston Martin had the C4 under the seat with the antitheft sticker on the driver side window...
boom.

only takes 2 people to pick a Ninja up... seen it done on a Police anti-theft video. not to be discouraging or anything.... Best to keep it in a garage with a disc lock on the front and the rear wheel chained to a ground anchor.

no point waisting hundreds of dollars on an alarm.

GREAT NEWS FOR YOU KAT!!

Thrilled for you, and that no one got hurt... I understand you wanting to check it out BEFORE you called the cops, just to make sure it was yours, but I think that would have been my very next call once I knew it was! Did they ever show up?!

Glad no one got hurt (well, at least no one GOOD), and that you have your baby back!!!
