Default cracks on the side of the tire

I have been riding my 2008 250r for a year. Recently I have realized that there are long cracks around the rim of the rear tire (they are closer to the rim and along it i.e. parallel to it) . That was very surprising indeed, because I have less than 4000 miles on the bike only. I wonder if it is a usual thing to have, because I ave never noticed them before???

Air pressure?
Has the tire ever been run flat or extremely low?
Stored outside in the sun?

If you've got cracks in your tire, you should be looking at replacing both of them just for safety reasons usually cracking of any sort is indicating dryrot, or just having been parked out in the sun.

Thanks for your quick replies!
I don't have a garage, and yes, the bike sits outside. It is mostly covered when I am not riding it, but thinking again I realize that the cover I have does not go all the way down to the bottom of the rear tire. But I am still surprised though. It does not happen to the tires on my car car, but with the one on my bike???

More mileage on the car.

As the tire rolls with weight on it, it flexes. This works carbon black to the surface, which protects the tire from ozone and UV.

Take a look at trailer tires... they crack VERY quickly, even if covered.

i second the idea to get some new rubber ....even at low speed a blowout could result in alot more $$$$ than the price of tires....not to mention all the other bad things that could happen..
