Hey all, i found this site some time ago and have learned alot of tips.I now have a question regarding my bike 1985 GPZ900R.Here some links to pics of on photobucket.

Well my question is after running the bike and park it on center stand the oil level come up to the proper level in 5mins or less, but after running it and using side stand the oil level does not come up in the oil view glass, but as soon as i put the bike upright the level comes right up,why is the oil not draining down when the bike is on side stand and where is it? now if it sits over night on side stand the oil comes up on glass ,but very little.Do i have a oil passage clogged up?It also started making noise from top end like its not getting oil,but this noise is not constant it happens at diffrent times ,i let off the gas and back on and it goes away. any ideas?

The sight glass is on the side of the engine. When the bike is on the side stand all the oil is over on the other side of the engine because the bike is leaning so thats completely normal. Always check your oil with the bike on level ground and either on the center stand or held up vertical. If you've picked up additional noise and it's new, it cold be valves need adjusting or it might the the timing chain. That could be due to wear in the timing chain tensioner or guides or a problem with it. How many miles on the engine? When were valves adjusted last?

    Thanks for the replay.

The sight glass is on the left side ,same side it leans whan on side stand.

It has 36k on it .it runs great timing chain is good.im going to take off engine cover this weekend and check valve clearence and also replace upper oil pipes with larger A3 pipes,i was told that the A1,A2 has smaller ones that was fix in A3 models.

I remember reading about one design that had problems with top end premature wear because of the oil flow. I do remember it was a design problem but I'm not sure what the fix was or what engine it was.

OK, I stand corrected on the sight glass. I've never seen one with the glass on the left side. Regardless of which side it's on, you can not get a proper oil level check unless the bike is upright and level so I wouldn't worry what it is showing when the bike is on the side stand.
