Hi everyone. I just bought a bike and it needs a little work. It was a good deal tho so its ok
When I roll on the throttle and realease it, it doesn't snap back to the off position, it kind of slides slowly back, so that when I'm shifting it I have to push it back. I tried opening the box, lubing it, and that did not help, so I followed the cables to where they attach on the other end....keep in mind I know little about bikes, and I found that spring thing that the two cables ends are connected too. The one that is higher up, appears to be loose, so when I let off the throttle it has a little slack before it tightens up. Now I figured that I must need to tighten the nuts. I can't get a wrench in there without taking off the tank. So I removed the seat and unscrewed the bolt holding down the tank and lifted up. The tank is still attached somewhere I think. I have no manual so I'm not positive where to go from here. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! Holly |

You might look and make sure your hand grip isn't rubbing against the right hand controls. The next thing to check would be cable slack. Try to adjust cable length and see if that helps. If that doesn't work you may need to replace the springs on your carbeurator. It's possible the return spring is worn and needs replacement.

what bike to start with ?
could be the grip rubbing, could be a bad cable (needs lubed/replaced) could be its corroded/dirty at the carb housing and holding up the throttle mechanism, could be its too tight in the handle bar housing |

Its an '03 ninja 250. I can't see that the cables would need to be replaced, as it only has 2,000 miles on it. The grip is not rubbing, and I think the cable just needs to be tightened ( too much slack on one of them) but can't reach the nut without taking off the tank. So if someone with a 250 could give me a quick run through on getting it off ( I don't have the manual ) so I can adjust the nut, that would be great
