Default 94 vulcan 750 no second gear

I"ve got a 94 750 vulcan to fix. The problem is NO second gear. It shifts into every gear without fail but second gear is just another neutral.

Examining the shifter reveals the circlips are definitely out of place on the shifter shaft. The shifter moves in and out. I've seen that before and fixed it by installing a spacer on the outside of the engine.

Every gear engages properly and there's no unusual noises coming from the transmission.

It's just like 1st, neutral, neutral, 3rd, 4th,5th...I put the bike on the center stand and shifted it through the gears. Second gear does not move the rear wheel at all. Every other gear is fine.

I haven't drained the oil yet or done any tear down of any nature...just searching for any info from anyone else that may have had this problem. YES the bike has had the snot beaten out of it from doing stationery burn outs.

When you do burn outs stuff happens to tires, clutch baskets, gears, sprockets. It's like the saying if you wan't to play you have to pay. 20 years ago on my H2's I wouldn't think twice about spliting the case, but my Nomad look's like it would be a pain, but I'd do it for 2 reasons. I know it would be done correctly and no labor,Im tight.

Hi Larry,

Looks like you have your work cut out for you.

It shifts, so it's not the shift drum/forks associated with the other gears. or linkage. It's got to be either the gears them selves or the shift fork associated with that gear.

Either way, it's a complete teardown. I undated the trans prob. I had on that thread. I got my parts from Ron Ayers in North Carolina, Saved about a third compared to buying locally or other internet sites.

Good luck Larry
