Default 1977 KZ1000 Neutral Switch

Hi everyone. My neutral light recently stopped coming on when I'm in neutral. I see by reading some of the other threads that I may need a new switch. The problem is that I can't figure out where it is. I see a wire going into the clutch side cover. Could that be leading the right direction? How do I go about getting at it without messing something up? The bike still starts ok with the clutch in so it hasn't really caused a problem, but I miss the nice little green light on the panel. Thanks very much for the assistance. - Ron

Did you check if the tiny bulb in the panel burned out first? I know it sounds simple but worth checking to start.

I didn't take the panel apart and check the bulb but since I now need to have the clutch level pulled in to start it I figured it must be the switch itself. I just don't know how to get to it correctly. Thanks for the help.

I always have to pull in the clutch to start. Your going to find 30 years of chain lube build up behind the sprocket cover. Thats a fun mess to clean up.

Mine is located (switch) on the clutch lever. But as already mentioned I'd check the bulb first.

The neutral switch is located on the left side of the motor, under the sprocket cover.

The Clutch Interlock switch is located on the clutch lever perch.

Thanks everyone! The neutral safety switch was indeed the area where the problem was. I removed the sprocket cover (it certainly was a mess in there) and found that the wire had come loose from the connector. A quick fix and I once again have my little green light! Thanks, again.

A 77 has a clutch interlock switch? I didn't think they stuck those things on till the early 80s... In fact, I don't recall them on any bike till the J motor came out in 81 but I certainly could have a false recollection since Im am getting a bit senile... hehe
