Default Valve cover removal ??

Hello...

I am a newbie to the bike mechanic world and need a little help...I need to remove the valve cover on my 94 ZX-11...I noticed 3 cables running perpendicular to the valve cover...I imagine clutch/throttle/choke cables. Is there a way to disconnect them easily, so removal of the valve cover can be done ??

Thanks !!

The choke cable, you can probably just pull on to get enough slack to get it off. If not, unscrew the one of 4 bolts in the top of the carb that holds the bracket.

The throttle cables, on the other hand, are going to be difficult to get off without popping off the bank of carbs. It is for me, anyway. You can probably get enough slack by loosening the adjusters in the cable then you can unseat the sheathed end of the cable from their little seats which will give you enough slack to remove the cable ends from the cam that operates the butterflys. For me, it's easier to take the carbs off and do it because getting the cable ends back in the holes they go in is a royal pain and will cause a lot of swearing.

I have individual K&N pod filters and no airbox so my bank of carbs comes off in about 40 seconds so rather than mess with the cables, I just leave them connected and take the whole rack of carbs off to get stuff out of the way.

actually you should be able to get enough slack to not unhook anything but if not then just undo them at the bars

Sometimes it is just easier to unhook them. I have spent 30 minutes trying to save 15 minutes!

Slacken off the throttle cables enough to lift them from where they sit at the carbs. You can do this without pulling the cable from its connection on the carb, just at the end of the sheath. Yes you can force the choke spring out and will be able to remove the cable end. Use some spray lube on the choke cable end.
You will not need to undo anything at the handlebars.
