Default I can't change gears on my KDX200!

I have a 1996 KDX200 and was riding it in the weekend when it suddenly started slipping out of gear into neutral. It seemed to do it from all gears and eventually I couldn't get it to stay in gear for more then a few seconds. Now it won't even kick through the gears at all. It seems to get halfway into one of the top gears then leaps out again. Any ideas on what the problem may be please let me know. I am going to pull things apart this weekend and would be nice to have a few ideas before I go in.
Thanks

my basic guess is, it'll be so work inside that hit has nothing to hook onto and the second it seems like it is in gear it drops out.

Sorry I couldn't give you better news

Hi Stuart
Cheers for the reply but I couldn't quite understand what you are saying.
Nice XV by the way. I am currently turning a 1979 XS750 into a chopper.

cool cool, I just purchased a nice vintage set of saddle bags in extremely good condition, just washed it up and am about to put some leather conditioner on it, I'll get some new pics of my bike up soon.

1. could just be a slip of gears

2. the shift forks might be screwed, that's typically what it is.
