I am sick and fed up with the Keihin Carb on my 88 bayou 300. I just cannot solve the gas leaking out of the overflow tube. bought a carb kit, the new float needle worked worse than the original, changed the float level a hundred times, put a new $33 float in. no luck. It irks me that the float needle seat cannot be replaced. I can't afford to put a new $300 carb on an old Bayou. I own over 40 old motorcycles and none of them have this problem, usually its a simple fix.
The float bowl o ring gaskets also swell and cannot be put back in the groove So has anybody put a Mikuni carb on? like a VM series. and do you have any info on jetting that you used. |

Well I have waiting almost a year for a decent answer with a solution. I guess the people on this forum simply buy new, and when they break, they junk them. No competent mechanics posting here willing to help somebody.
No I have not tried a different brand carb yet because of the hassle substituting a twist throttle for a thumb throttle. I had the bayou running good, but the good old float needle fouled up again. It either sticks closed and wont allow the bowl to fill or it sticks open and the gas just runs out the overflow tube. some times it does run good for a time. Keihin was nuts making a carb where you cannot change the seat for the float needle. or they just wanted to rip off the public with $350 replacement carbs and with Certainty, Kawasaki did nothing to fix the headache. You would think "name manufacturers" would issue service bulletins like Yamaha does when they find a defect. I will not buy a new Kaw anything. let alone any Keihin carb. |
