Default Couple of wheel/ brake related questins EX500

I have an '06 EX500 that I managed to bend the rim on. (Obvious way on that )
I got the wheel OFF just fine (I have previous mechanical experience), but getting it back on seems to be three parts of impossible! The right hand pad fell off when I was taking the rim off, and is being a helluva pain to get back on with the wheel.
Now might be a good time to mention that I didn't have a bike jack, so I just sort of laid it on its left side, which was already damaged cosmetically from the accident. So the 'right' side of the wheel and whatnot are the 'top' to me.

On my new wheel was a little metal cylinder thingy that gets in the way on the brake side of the wheel. Should that be hammered in or something? I don't even remember it existing on my old wheel.

As for the pad, should I just get the wheel on and get the bike upright without the pad on there, and just worry about that while it's upright?

Thanks in advance,
Jey

um dude/dudett dont you have a center stand on that bike ???? last ex i worked on had one. you could have just jacked it up off the exhaust.
anyways, get a service manual so you dont go "HAMMERING" parts in where they dont belong.
OR
put down the wrenches and back away,go find a truck and take it to a shop.

Sure you even got an EX500 wheel there? I don't recall any spacers being on the right side on the EX, though I think there was one on the left (sprocket) side. In any case, you want to remove it, not hammer it in. The bearings are around there, not a good idea to go hammering around those. If you have both wheels together, you should visually compare them and make sure all spacers and washers that came off the original go back on the new one in the same order, and see what the differences are between the 2 wheels......

if you've got an EX500, you have a centerstand, unless you went to a 2:1 header and removed it. ALWAYS use that centerstand when you're pulling the back tire off.

put bike on centerstand, use a floorjack under the oil pan with a 2x4 to prevent damage, and lift it up. thats how I did mine.

Okay, how to change the pads? Take the caliper off? The pad wont fit on with the wheel on there -_-

Also, there was no damage other than a tiny bit of gas lost. Still starts fine

You need to push the brake piston back into the caliper so the pad fits and then reseat the pads once they are re-installed with the wheel in place.

Yeah, thanks I figured this out after my brief spurt of stupidity there.

Bike rides fine now. I'm so happy to say that I completed my first repair job on a bike. Go me!
