I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ250. After adjusting the valves, I was putting the bolts into the valve covers and I stripped the threads in the head for the hole that the bolt goes into. How do repair the threads?

Hi brieweb and welcome to the forum. Timeserts are probably your best bet:

While they may be a lot better than Helicoil, they are also many times more expensive. I use Recoil inserts because of their function and reasonable cost. You will need 6mm inserts. These come in "kit" form. Any insert kit will contain a tap for cutting a new threaded hole. You will also an install tool for putting the insert in the hole. Some insert kits will also give you a drill bit for pre-sizing the to-be-threaded new hole and of course, a handfull of new inserts. Again, 6mm inserts and no more than 15mm length of so. The kits will have inserts in different lengths depending on the manufacturer. I would spend the money on Timeserts for plug thread but not case screw/bolt hole repair.
