I got new tires and brakes put on my bike in the last couple months and I've started noticing recently that the rear tire is rubbing against the rear brake (or disc) in certain areas. About a week ago I had it up on the center stand to lube the chain and when I was turning the rear tire to move the chain I could hear a small scraping sound in certain areas. Is this something I should take back and have it looked at or is this a quick fix I would be able to do myself? It just sounds like either the rear disc or the rear brake is loose, I wouldn't want to take it back to the dealer just to have that looked at.
Also, it has no noticeable effect on performance. The only time I can hear scraping when the bike is in motion is when applying the rear brake, but it still works just as well as it did before. I could take pictures of the problem area if it would clear up any confusion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

First of all, welcome to the forum. I've got an 04 ex500 too and I also hear a scraping sound when the brake pad hits the disc in places through the revolution of the rear wheel. It just rubs slightly and my rotor and brake pads were fine, so I haven't worried about it too much. I've noticed it for awhile too.
That being said, I'm no expert and I'm in the same boat. So I'll wait to see what the ones in the know say. |

Thanks for the welcome.
Well if you haven't had any long term effects then I guess it doesn't really matter. I assumed it was going to be one of those things where a year later my wheel falls off and I think to myself that I knew I should have fixed that. |

the brakes will rub a little, it's called brake kiss. the brakes lightly rub the rotor so there isn't much room for the brakes to move before they start to work.
