Question 1982 Kawasaki GPZ 550 Electrical won't work!!!

My 82 GPZ 550 is having some weird electrical problems. No lights anywhere, but it will start. No pinched wires anywhere that we can find. When we open the fuse box, the fuses are good. If we jump the main fuse to any of the other fuses (Bridge it) all of the lights go on and work. It doesn't make much sense. We can't figure it out, we have other friends who aren't sure what is going on with it either. Please help!!! Want to ride this season. (Not very long season in WI either)

When you open the main fuse box, there are 3 fuses. One is for the starter and is directly connected to the battery. the other two run all of the lights. When i take a pair of channel locks and touch one end of the fuse for the starter, to either of the other two fuse ends, the appropriate lights work. I'll try to get a picture. can't get in the garage to get one.

zthis should take you to a list. Click on Chassis Electrical Equipment. The ref# you want to look at is 26001D It should be a picture of 3 fuses. 26006 Is the main fuse attached to the battery, the other 2 are the lights. Hope it helps.

You need to search for the bike. This is what I entered: Motorcycle-1982,550,all, all-Choose GPz Sportbikes Click view parts diagram. That will pul up the list I told you about earlier.

test the fuses. they may look good but not be good. Like some women, and not to offend them, some men. check all grounds, too.

ya just have to do some testing with and ohm meter to see where the electri stops and where it starts....get you wiring schematics and it will show you the paths the electricity takes and you should be able to do test till you find the dead wire/wires

I had a fuse a couple weeks ago look brand new (well, it was) but the top of it, that you can't see because of the chrome end cap, wasn't connected. Could be the same thing.

For a quick check (if you don't have any new fuses); wrap the fuse in some aluminum foil and see if the lights work. If it does then you have a bad fuse. You can also use the foil wrapper from a pack of cigarettes. (this trick has got me home at least twice)
