Default My new 2000 zx-6r suffers oil leakage & loss of low end power :`(

    Hello all!

I'm the new owner of a 2000 zx-6r and I'm loving every moment of it. I became addicted to motorcycling on my buddy's Honda CM400 and seriously considered buying a bike when I got to learn on my other friend's R1 for a couple hours (since he owed me for fixing his bike electrics and making it run again).

When I bought the bike there were many problems with it, a few of which I've resolved by stripping the bike down to the carbs and then putting it back together.

    Current problems:

    - Oil leaks from engine, especially at higher RPMs (highway driving) where it practically spews the stuff all over the place. When this happens, there is a lot of whiteish blue smoke from the engine and exhaust for the next while until it's all burnt off. The temps on the bike are good (160Fish when moving) but it can get up to 220F in rush hour... I think this is normal.

    - Loss of low end power: I have virtually no power below 3,750 RPM even when I throttle it. It sounds like I'm running on 2 cyls in that range and makes it really hard to accelerate off the line especially uphill. Once it gets past 3,750, the power comes back and things seem okay. I don't know about the top end because I'm staying away from that until I change the head gasket.

The bike starts fine and revvs freely.

    Mods:
The bike has a full Yoshimura exhaust. I don't think it has any other mods.

    What I've done:
I've replaced all the fluids, replaced the oil filter and cleaned out the carbs. I added fuel line cleaner to my gas tank. I've also added "no smoke and stop leak" fluid to the engine oil which lets me run the engine as advertised when throttling lightly.

    What I plan to do:
I plan on stripping the bike down to replace the head gasket myself (since the shops in Toronto rape you for motorcycle labor) but I don't want to have to do it more times than I have to. I'd like to figure out what the problems are and fix them all at once. Do you guys have any ideas?

When I bought the bike the seller included a gasket head (it's 4 pcs of metal and I thought it was a head gasket but those are supposed to be rubber... I guess I don't know what it's for then... it's from kawasaki) and a set of piston rings.

So sorry for the insanely long post but I'm so addicted to motorcycling and this is my new baby Thanks in advance!!

Low end power under 4k sounds like dirty pilot jets and/or passages. Will probably take a very good cleaning (stripped down soaked and compressed air) to get them clear. The oil could be a number of things but bad rings is one of them. Have you done a leakdown test on it or even a compression test. You might make sure the crankcase vent is clear.

What area is the oil blowing out from?
