Red face 900C rear shock adjustment/tool

So I decide to adjust the rear shock on my 900 custom from the factory position (4) to the Fat Dude position (6). After removing the seat etc, I use the provided wrench and extension and advance it one click easily enough.
Then I try to move the wrench/ext combo to spin the preload one more click and discover that I'm stymied in both directions. Can't get the wrench far enough around to get good leverage, can't get the ring moved all the way to the next click from the position I could get to with the wrench head. Can't get enough leverage without the extension etc etc.
After surgically altering the wrench and the extension with a hacksaw (to no avail) I came up with the lever shown here. (I welded 2 scraps of steel together and ground a bit off the snout so it firt snugly into the extension)
Using this device I was able to advance the preload to the desired position quite easily.

In hindsight, this seems like it was way more complicated than it should have been. (duh!) Has anyone else experienced this problem, or did I miss some painlessly obvious trick that would have made this easier?

(also the spanner in the pic is installed upside down but you get the idea)
Thanks for your input in advance!

You need to use the other wrench. I have 2 of them in my tool kit. One is offset from the other.

So are you saying use the other wrench as part of the extension, or apply it to the adjuster? I tried both wrenches, but only one seemed to fit the adjuster correctly. Perhaps I need to give it another look..
    They all do that.
