My 91 zx1100 headlight is aimed almost straight up. I havent been able to ride at night for some time now. Now I have the bike apart. Its in the shop with the engine pulled and just in a million and one pieces so I ******ed the plastics from the shop for paint and grabbed the headlight. On the back of the headlight, there aretwo ajustments, one is in the top right corner of the back with a handknob to turn it with, the other is in the bottom left corner and does not have a hand knob but instead, it has a phillips head piece in it for a screwdriver to turn it. My question is, which one is for up and down and which one is for left and right. And is there a proper way to see how they are aimed with the headlight off the bike?

well see thats the problem, the bike is in a million pieces and is about 50 miles away from the headlight. lol not exactly easy to do that. I may be stuck doing that when i get it back together. Thanks for the help. Hopefully someone will chime in and know a trick to doing it off the bike.

Don't think you're going to adjust it off the bike, unless you exactly place it in the position it mounts on the bike. You might turn the (adjustments) you found, and see what moves what. I've never seen a lamp adjustment with a knob, not saying it's not, just never seen one.

Top should be for right left adjustment. Bottom for up down. I'd tighten the bottom and get the bike back and continue from there.

I guess it looks like I got to wait, no sweat though. And what I mean by a hand knob, I mean it has a knob that you can turn by hand and the knob is connected to the adjustment piece via a rod with a gear on the tip. Think of a rear end in a truck. THe drive shaft would be the hand knob and the spider gear would be the adjustment piece. Great analogy right? lol |

Sounds to me like the knob is the vertical adjustment to allow for quick adjustments in case you have a passenger or riding solo. Just a guess since I'm not familiar with this bike but it's def going to have to be on the bike to set it I think.

That makes sense. I will try my best to place the light on something that is about the same height and everything as the bike and "ghetto" rig it to a power source to turn it on and starting playing with it. Ill do that this weekend along with the paint and shaving the seat. thanks
