Default How to check for vacuum leak?

I just installed my Baron's BAK kit, and removed and replaced the reed valves. I also installed a PCIII unit. After installation, my bike start with a rough, choking sound with engine shaking. Someone on this website here suggested a vacuum leak. And I rechecked all the steps I did, open everything out and check step by step to make sure I did them right. Now, the bike start & engine run for about 1 second then stop
    - How do I do a vacuum check, what are places that I should check for, cuz I checked all the places/tubes/ports those I worked with and could not find any problem.
It's been 2 weeks, and the weather has been extremely warm & I can't ride my bike, so frustrated.

You have to be able to get it to run for more that a few secs in order to check for a vacuum leak. Check all your connections again. Make sure all the hoses are connected to the correct port, e.g. you havent crossed any hoses with the wrong fitting. If/when you do get it running, use a can of WD40, (WD40 wont hurt any paint, etc.) and start spraying around suspected areas. When the WD40 hits a leak, the bike will stumble a bit...and that will help locating the leak. Let us know what happens. If all else fails, work backwards and remove all the parts/work you did. Seriously. Reassemble. Its possible you missed something that cant be seen with everything back together. Make sure the PCIII is installed correctly. Good luck!

If you took your plug boots and or connectors off while doing the install, I'd suggest you double check those as well. The symptoms you describe sound a lot like those of a bike firing on the wrong cylinders.

What model bike are we talking about here anyway?

Edit: I see you put a PCIII in. Have you tried disconnecting that to rule it out?
It's not how fast you go, it's how little you slow.

I'm sorry for being illiterate, but what's plug boots, and where are them on the bike?

    And I have a 02 Vulcan Mean Streak 1500cc.

I'll try to rule out the PCIII problem tomorrow and update the result.
    Thank you greenmonster & stormdragon
