Default takes long time to warm up!

I have an 83' kz550 ltd and it only has 4000 miles new plugs freshly rebuilt carbs. but for some reason it takes 6 or 7 minutes to warm up before i can ride and then when i do it hesitates slightly in the low rpm's like it still is not warmed up and this in 80 degree weather. Is the normal or should i do something?

Were the carbs synched? Are you using the choke when starting?

If yes, then you may want to take a look at your spark plugs. If they are white, you are running lean. May want to look into bigger pilot jets.

Well there's no doubt it was jetted lean from the factory. If it's still got the factory pilot jets then I would do as Tina suggested and go up 1 size on the pilots.

I may be wrong but in my experience lean running is hotter. You may want to check timing first.
