Thumbs up Phoenix Area Riders....Motorcycle Repair

im gonna start taking in some side work now that im moved into my house.
i have been working on/riding motorcycles for over 25yrs now (started riding when i was 5 on a GT80) i graduated MMI in march of 04 and have worked at several shops in the phoenix area now. (apache and R ATV)
i will be able to do pretty much anything from tire changes (soon) to motor rebuilds. so if ya have a bike ya need work done on give me a call after 4pm on my

CELL- 602-309-0135 (not after 10pm)

and we can setup a time for ya to bring the bike to me for repairs.

TWO stipulations at this time is .......

1. YOU supply the necessary parts to fix the bike or i will get them at a 10% over my cost price. i dont have any special hookups at this time so im paying what you would pay so its in your best interest to get the parts/supplies ahead of time if you can.

2. if you have a manual i would like to be able to use it so that i can see specs on carb settings, valve clearances etc. OR you supply the needed information

i will be working on getting my own library as time goes on but at this time i only have the manual for my ZRX
i will be charging 45$ an hour (instead of 60$+ like the shops) i will be honest with you about a time frame and if i cant fix the problem then i will only charge you for an hour of my time (45$) i wont be giving my time away and i can atleast tell you what's NOT the problem.
i treat peoples bikes like they are my own so there is no beating on them during test rides (unless its necessary ) they will be kept inside my garage at all times (i have a full alarm system)
i will also let you know if i CANT work on the type bike you have (i may not know enough about it to work on it competently)
i will work on TWO-STROKES or 4-STROKES of all kinds. as long as i can get parts for it i will work on it.
this is a GIANT step towards SELF-EMPLOYMENT FOR MYSELF so i will have to play it day by day while working my normal job.
so let me know what ya think or if ya need my help.
thanks

That sounds like a great start there man. Some of my friends are doing the same thing with computers. I used to be into all that but now computers are kind of a rainy day hobby. I'm thinking about taking some MMI courses 1. To fix my own bikes and save cash 2. I'm starting to get serious into riding on the track and it will be handy to be able to do tune ups and repairs on my crashed bikes 3. make some side cash fixing local's bikes.

I do like your plan and I wish you the best, being self-employed is a great feeling.

Good luck. It is a shame that you do not live closer to Scotland. Your advice is much appreciated.

I really wish you were closer I don't trust any mechanics around here to do the shim adjustments on my valves. Good luck with the business.

Hey man:
I'm self-employed too, so best wishes. I read your posts & trust your input. All the people I know would pay good $$$ for a good mechanic, your fee is beyond reasonable. I bet my bike you don't rush the job like in the shops, those dudes/gals even if they are good don't take their time 'cuz they have to get it off the lift for the next job. You're very smart doing it on the side first until you know what the future holds.

Good luck - if you were closer to Sweet Home Alabama I'd give you my business. The local dealer charges $70 an hour & a 1 hour minimum.

Default Whole-hearted Endorsement For Lance!!!

I cannot begin to express what a pleasure it was to deal with Lance. He was fast (as fast as he could be due to having to run down parts for my old bike!) and he was always in touch with me to update me on his progress. The best part was that he was reasonable and my bike runs like a striped-*** ape, now. That is saying a lot as it had been sitting for almost three years. I've got a couple of more bikes that I'll soon be calling him up about.

IF YOU'RE IN THE PHOENIX AREA AND NEED WORK DONE, CALL HIM UP!!

Default Good luck in the venture

Lance, best of luck in your venture. I wish I had the time to do what you are about to. I almost have time to work on my projects. I'm rebuilding a 61 matchless, an 86 Voyager, and a 1937 Indian chief. I work on one for a while order parts then move to the next one and the cycle repeats itself for the last 3 years. Almost have the Voyager and Matchless done. Good luck and have lots of fun.

In what part of the Valley do you live? With that 602 area code, I'm guessing you're in the City of Phoenix-proper?
