Exhaust change requirements.

OK Folks I just registered here so I guess Im the newby. Its a great site. Im also a newby Kawy owner.1600 Nomad. I crossed over from the Harley world when I took My buddies Nomad for a spin. I drove Directly to the dealer and picked one up. There is one thing I do Miss about the Harley and thats the nice rumble they get out of a good quality set of pipes.
This is my concern. Ive heard stories about not needing a power commander if I put a set of Vance and Hines Baggers on. Can some of you guys set me straight. Also do I need to remove something from the cylenders and but a plate on inits place. I cant wait to get rid of the ol bag pipes ( converter).
I would appreciate any info you can give me. Oh is it the nature of the beast when it knocks some when starting cold. sounds scary to me

What a bout changing the air intake also. A k& n filter or an air charger??????
