KZ550 Valve Adjustment & Ape Tensioner with Pics

I got soooo tired of listening to cam chain noise on my 550 that I decided to order an Ape Cam Chain manual tensioner for my bike. After striking out with my local vendor, I got hold of Pat at Ape. As of this afternoon my tensioner is on it's way.

I figure I may as well use the down time to go ahead and do a valve adjustment as well. I've never done a valve adjustment on this bike, and it surely must be due. So, I thought I'd post some pics and thoughts here of the finer details that are not present in any manual for the 550 that I've seen.

What I managed to get done tonight is to;

Remove the valve cover and auto tensioner. I only had 1 hour to play, and if you'll note the baby carriage in the last pic, it gets fixed first or else!
