What is the condition of the battery? Are the battery terminals free of corrosion? Check the ground cable(negative terminal) where it connects to the frame. Remove the fuses one at a time and see if any are blown. Check the positive (red cable) to the starter solenoid and see if it is free of corrosion and is tight.
These are a few basic steps I do when a bike wont start.
thank u for responding i have actually done all of those steps so far i just have been so frustrated and found this sit today. any info on the ignition switch u have would be great like what does the brown wire do and the side stand switch is disconnected is that ok i didnt do it and the bike has run without it but should i connect to 2 wires or keep them separate
The next step would be to get shop manual that has a wiring diagram in it. The factory shop manual (FSM) has wiring colors and what goes to where.
The sidestand switch may have a safety provision so you cannot start the bike with it down. Once again a shop manual is the next thing to get.
On this model you can start the bike but, with the side stand down, once you put it into gear it dies. Having the switch disconnected is OK, but the circuit still needs to be complete to solve the problem. Connect the leads in the wiring harness where the switch leads join the harness. Should be located about center above the engine, below the tank. I removed my tank to make the process easier.
