    Default Ex500 issues....

I'm having trouble with my ex500,
first on the list is the idle.
its kinda jumpy, not smooth like it should be, I've rebuilt the carbs, soaked them in carb cleaner sprayed out the idle passages and readjusted the floats.
its better than before but it still has a little jump to it every now and again, I've been turning the idle screws to see what is the best setting and it seems more like 2 1/2 to 3 turns out rather the what the haynes manual says (2 turns out)

Also I'm having slight hesistations in the upper rpm range, I don't think its detenation but I'm not sure, and it only happens at WOT...

I just installed a Jardine exhaust system WITHOUT rejetting the carbs like they say you should, but I wouldn't think that alone would be enough to lean out the motor...

really I have no idea weither my bike is running to rich or to lean.

can you guys point me in the right direction to get these problems solved?

so you put the exhaust on WITHOUT jetting the motor ? was it a full exhaust or just a slip on ?
pull the plugs and see what they look like. if they are white/gray then its lean if they are black/sooty then its rich.

Yeah sorry I ment WITHOUT, I though I read somewhere on this forum that it wasn't crucial but should be done. I'm looking at a kit on ebay but I'm not sure if its the right one for me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WD1V

btw after soaking the carbs and resetting the float level I noticed alot more power outa the bike, I guessing maybe some of the fuel passages or jets where clogged before

if its just a slip on then you could get away WITHOUT a jet kit but you may have some problems.
if its a full system then you NEED a jet kit to make the bike run correctly.
