I have a 95 ex500 24000 miles the timing chain seems to be excessively noisy, is this common on this motor. I have spent 2 years putting this bike together and about 3 weeks all together riding, the last time I thought I was finished it would run for about 10 miles then die I would have to pull off the side of the road pull the choke and try to restart. think the fuel filter was sucking air(didnt have a fuel filter in it when I got it so I added one, hope adding the filter is not causing an issue.)

Remove filter. The one in the tank is doing a fine job.
Rebuild fueltap. Diaphram is sticking with age cutting off the flow of fuel is a possibility. Nylon guides for timing chain worn out? Does ape make a manual adjuster for your bike? ape.com
