I have the same problem.. I understand it is not hard to do, just this will be my first time doing it..

My friend Jeffs99vulcan said he was going to write a "How To" on tightening the chain.

I am sure he or another member will post one for us.

PS.. if it is jumping off the sprocket, you might need to have the sprockets (both front & rear) checked to make sure they are not damaged.

If it slips on the sprocket it is probably too late to just adjust it and be finished. If you plan on doing your own maintenance the first thing you should do is get a service manual and get familiar with it. You will find all the info you need in there on adjusting your chain as well as other maintenance items that you could do yourself instead of paying a dealer to do it for you. It will also tell you how to identify a sprocket and chain that are in need of replacement.

Very easy... I've started writing out the how-to, just been busy this week, but hope to have it done by tomorrow. I included a section on building a quick and easy rear wheel lift and got that part done today, the chain adjustment part probalby won't take as long... I just want do it once and do it right, pics and all, I promised that to Joram and just took a little longer than I'd hoped!

Stay tuned...

Dealers actually DO have it... The host of this forum (Beartooth Kawasaki) would be happy to sell you one! You can sometimes find used ones on eBay as well, but supporting the forum host is never a bad idea!

If the chain did come all the way off, I would pull the front spocket cover and make sure it did not "chew" anything up when it slipped off.

If you were at speed, something got damaged when it came off. Inspect everything carfully. A weakend chain is nothing you want to be ridding with.

PS. you can get a good used Clyamor manual on eBay around $12. I was lucky that the previous owner of my bike gave me the Claymor manual and I picked my OEM service manual up on eBay for $.99 (only the pictures are really dark)

more to this story than has been said. 2100 miles is not enough mileage to have a chain stretch more than half a link in total length, not stretch the amount it takes to slip a tooth. Either the speedo was unhook or has been changed or the previous owner changed sprockets and did not even attempt to re tension the chain. If you take, for example a 17 tooth off the front and install a 16 the chain may have enough slack to do this, but no way 2100 miles will stretch one that far. No way.
