Default Throttle "Play" on 08 ZX10R

I noticed that my 10r seems to have a lot of loose play. I have to turn it a good 30 degrees before it even starts to move. My last ZX7 was not like this and none of the hondas I have ridden seemed to have this issue. If I recall correctly, my buddy's R6 seems to have a little bit of play, but I don't think it is nearly as bad as mine.

Any ideas on correcting this? I would prefer the throttle to open when I turn the stick instead of after my wrist is bent lol.

Thanks,
Robert

Adjust the slack out of the cable. I always try to imagine the end of the grip has a clock hand pointed straight up (12:00) and adjust the slack so that free travel ends at 11:00. Never take out all of the free travel and that applies to the return cable as well.

Good answer, as if all the play was taken out and you turn the bars the engine speed would go up and you might crash!

+1 ^^ - agree - most cables have an adjustment at the carb end as well. Adjust this end to take up most of the slack, and then fine tune it with the adjustment at the control housing.

That's what I was thinking. I didn't want to go to the carb end adjustment if I could do it at the control housing. The adjustment up top is just a knob to turn, the one at the carbs will be a lot of dissasembly.

Not much of a mechanic, but I am willing to play with adjustments so long as I don't think I will screw anything up. I might play with it when I get home and see if I can get it how I want it. Same with the clutch at this point. It is engaging a little farther out than I would like. I know how to adjust that one, but haven't gotten around to it. Tonight might be the night! lol

Take care,
Robert
