Default problem with kz1000-p

i recently bought this beautiful kz1000-p and as soon as i got it went straight to the mechanic to work on the tune up and cleaning and rejetting the carbs cause it was sitting for some time (less than a year) well everything's done but the bike revs up bu itself when i'm ridding it or if i touch ever so slightly the throttle what could this be? also if someone could direct me to a wiring diagram of that bike i'd appreciate it.

thnx

Probably a lean condition due to cracks in the rubber intake tubes/hoses either to the carbs or at the point where the carbs attach to the engine.

Get some spray on carb cleaner and spray around the hoses/tubes, if the rpm goes up you have found the crack.

Also remove the small cover on the right side(about the size of a CD and inspect the mechanical ignition advancer. It should change the ignition timing from retard to advanced as the rpm changes. The moving parts need a light oil on the moving parts, springs, and pivots to work properly.

Year/model info might help if anyone is going to be able to help with a link to new boots or wiring info.

The airbox rubbers and manifolds for my 81 are still an active part and available through Kawasaki. I think all the 1000 P's use the same one as mine from 82-05 model. There are no Kaw dealers withing 35 miles of me so I ordered mine online from Z1enterprises.

Thats very risky at best. Silicone doesn't burn well and an engine that ingest it will not be a happy camper. If it's on the intake area there will be a constant vacuum on it trying to pull it in. If it's just a hairline crack you might get away with it but be sure you clean the surface good before you apply it.

It may run leaner but it probably wouldn't require re jet. The bike needs a certain amount of back pressure on the exhaust in order to run right. Just gutting the pipes will make it louder but you may not like the like the way it runs after you are done.

P.S. a replacement exhaust system in good shape from ebay will probably run you around $150-$200 and it's hard to undo what you've done when you gut one. IMO If you want it louder and a little performance boost, look into buying a 4-1 for it.
