Finally got my '86 gpz600r into a position to start and run.
After discovering that having very little fuel in the tank and the tap not set to reserve causes running problems I got it running but... ... under the left hand silencer bracket is a big hole. so got hold of this: ![]() When it comes to fitting it do I just need new gaskets and use the existing collets? Which gaskets are more suitable copper or aluminium thanks |

I've used copper gaskets in both of my Kawasaki's (77 KZ1000 and 82 GPZ1100) with no problems. Aluminum should work as well unless you hear any horror stories to the contrary.
If the pipes line up to the exhaust ports with little effort the clamps/collets should work. Use a little anti-seize on the threads to prevent sticking and check the tightness after a few heat/cool cycles as the crush washers(gaskets) may move. I use a heavy grease to stick the gaskets to the ports. Are you using a split keeper to grip the exhaust system flange? I found that masking tape holds the keepers together well and will smell a little after startup.

The centre stand could stay on but you would have to make a stop bracket because with the exhaust missing that side there is nothing to stop it going into the chain. I removed mine but refit it temporary for servicing. Remove it before you fit the exhaust otherwise you wont get the right hand bolt out.

It is possible to remove / refit the centre stand with the silencer in place. The nexxus has a cut-out that allows bolt removal. Oil drain plug and the oil filter are also removeable with the pipes on and a poly-bag wrapped around the collector box stops oil drops.
