WELCOME TO THE FORUM! Always glad to have another 800-er on board! (Your next job is to post pics!)

If you go Fram (LOOK OUT! There will soon be a TON of people shooting that idea down! People are passionatea about their filter choices! ) it's a PH6017A, and you will need 3.0L if you change the filter (2.9 if you don't, but CHANGE THE FILTER!). I like to use the Kawi mineral oil, 10W40... Otherwise just go to a Kawi dealer and ask for the filter for your bike, or to another aftermarket parts source and ask for the cross-ref to the Fram...

While we are on this subject, I would like to have a cross-reference of compatible oil filters for the 800. So far, Ive bought 2 filters from the dealer at over $8 a piece. So, if you know of any, please contribute for the benefit of all 800 owners!

VN800 compatible filters:
Kawi oem filter
Fram PH6017A
...

Here's one... but I also suggest you read this!

I was in your very same boat, those were the two I was choosing from. I'm switching to Wix from Napa... At the very least, if you find the above very long to read (I thought it was informative, especially if you just stick to the parts about the filters that you use), then at the very least, read the "opinions and recommendations" part, especially if you've even used Fram filters.

I'd like to find out more about who makes the Kawi filters though, and to what standard...

EDIT: (you beat me... the first link is the same as the one you posted!)
