I see an opportunity here -

Provided the bike is as photographed, AND you have someone go with you that is experienced and can offer a personal opinion as well, AND the price is as stated - I'd say buy it, make the necessary repairs and sell it for profit.

But, as a first bike - this one is way too dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced rider. Getting on this without some experience under your belt could potentially put you in the grave prematurely.

As for you getting into riding.
Step 1 - Take the Beginner Riding course offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation - THIS is the way to get started, and IMO for someone who has never ridden, the ONLY way.

Step 2 - find a more conservative motorcycle, one with not nearly so much power, and then get on it and ride it.

Later on you can graduate to a larger bike if you want. You asked how were you to know what kinda bike fits you or what should you get if you've never ridden before.... well you gotta start somewhere, and startign with a smaller, less powerful bike will ensure you live to graduate to a larger bike....and from there you will begin to fidn out what you like and dislike, based on your EXPERIENCE. Then you seek out the kind of bike you want.

And..... good for you you found this forum - THIS is an excellent source of information, and soem damn good guys and gals here that are more than willing to share their experience and help you when they can, me included.

Good Luck!!

I have been in the military, but it's not the reason I'm in Germany.

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate your input.

I'm definitely going to take the MSF class as soon as I can and I'll try to find a beginner bike.

If any of you live close to Midland, TX and are interested in this bike, I can get you in contact with my boss.

I'm also glad I found this forum, like Centex said. I spend most of my time at my350z.com and they're my source of information. There's a motorcycle section that I posted in, and I got many replies saying to buy it, but none of them were informational like the replies I got here from actual riders.

Thanks a lot guys, I'm sure you probably saved my life.

Which is scary to say... since I'm about to go visit a friend at the hospital who was hit on his bike by a lady that didn't look and when she switched lanes.

No matter what size and style of bike you get, you are going to have fun on it. I started on a Ninja 250 and had a TON of fun riding it. Hell I put 6,000 miles on the first year I had it and I still love that bike. But once you get some miles under your belt and learn a lot from more experienced riders (like the people here), you will know when it is time for a bigger bike, and you will know what kind of bike that will be. I started riding with the expectation that I would eventually get a Harley because everyone said I would look "bad ***" on one. Well, after riding for a while, I discovered that the Harley is probably one of the bikes that I am least interested in. Anyways, this is how you know which bike is right for you! Get some miles on a smaller bike, and then once you are comfortable and feel that bike is not enough for you anymore, then you will know what kind of bike fits you!

It is not what you ride, but how you ride. I agree that a bike of that caliber could be dangerous in inexperienced hands, but if you have the right attitude going into it... no problemo.

I wouldn't put it past someone to get this as a first bike if it fits your needs. I bought a zzr as my first. But only if your smart about it. Easy to get in trouble with.

Assuming he's telling it like it is, I'd scoop that bike up in a heartbeat. But I have almost 20k miles under my belt. As a new rider, you do not want to:

1. buy a project bike for your first
2. buy an SS bike for your first

JMO.

Wow... I just got back from the hospital, he's doing a lot better. They have him on morphine... lots of it. he broke both of his legs, his right radius and ulna, and a couple of ribs, along with roadrash all over his body. He had tire marks on his legs... so aparently he was also run over.

He was driving down 42nd street here in Odessa, TX and someone pulled out onto the street and he couldn't do anything since there was traffic to his left.

He said the same thing you guys said though, he told me that as soon as you get a bike you're pretty much invisible to everyone else.

Sorry to hear about your friend...

Which is one of the reasons I never recommend one of those bikes for a beginner. You really need to spend your time learning how to ride and diverting attention away from the road worrying about keeping a rocketsled under control is never the way to do that.

MSF class will teach you how to ride, give you some techniques that can save your life and let you get some practice time riding in a controlled environment. You'll be in a way better position to guage what you want in a bike after taking that class.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your friend. And, he's right, you should ride as though you're invisible.

Sounds like a great deal, might be too much bike for a newby though. Buy the bike, fix it up and sell it for 2k.

I stopped reading after about 2 posts.

If you do not buy this please send me a PM with his phone number.

At that price i will figure out how to get it shipped here.

That is a sweet bike, and insanely low price.

Heck if you do not like it after you ride it for a month or two, sell it for a tidy profit, the repairs are chep and easy.
