Default House Key

I pick up my 1st bike soon (will post pics when I take delivery)...

Anyways I have been trying to figure a good way to carry a house key with me. IK I can just throw it in my jacket pocket but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. I cant keep it on my ignition key ring b/c it will scratch the tank. Someone said stick it under your seat but that is even worse. They will have my addy from my registration and now have my house key.

So far a spare in my jacket pocket seems to be the best opinion. Anyone have anything more creative? I was hoping i could find a rubber key sleeve or something but they dont seem to make one - (i c a patent in my future LMAO).

Just get one of these:

Supra KeySafe Lock Box, Slimline Surface Mount

and you can leave a key in it securely so you don't have to take it with you at all.

I keep one bolted to the door frame between by storm and inside doors. I got mine at Home Depot. You can pick your own combination of however many numbers you want to use (though you can only use each number once). It's made of steel coated in ceramic and has 4 bolt holes in the back you can only access when it's unlocked and open. Just fine something that isn't going to move and mount it there.

In my case, you'd have to rip apart the door frame to get it off, then you still would have to use a cutting torch or bang on it an awful lot with something heavy to get into it.

Mine holds two keys. In my case, it holds the door knob key and deadbolt keys. There are ones that hold up to 5 keys, but you'd have to buy something like that online.

The keys attach to the key pad (which is the removable door on the unit), so they would have to put them back in order to lock the box back up. Essentially, you unlock it, the keypad pops out and it becomes a key fob.

The only downside is, when you pop the door off to open it, it resets the buttons so you have to dial the combo back into it in order to put the door back on and lock it. Some people might think that's a pain.

I use something similar to these key rings, and just pop the ignition key off as I need it

detachable key ring

but a lot of people use lanyards

lanyards

and attach the bike or house key as needed.

You carry a wallet? On longer bike trips I put a spare bike key in mine. Maybe you could do the same for your house key.

We have a remote garage door opener attached to the outside of the garage door. Requires a code entry to open the garage door.
I think we got ours at Lowes or Menards.
Haven't used a key in years.
Also have a garage door opener on the bike.

Works great if you have a garage.

Wrap a key in foil paper, and poke it in the ground somewhere near the porch or garage. We have kept a key like this for years and years.

thx for all the suggestions

As for the wallet suggestion I dont carry a traditional wallet i use "Slim Clip" - a money clip with a spot for credit cards. I got sick of sitting on a wallet during long car rides

I think i'll either use a hidden key method or the key box

Another option would be to keep the key in your tool kit. You can also get a locking box that sits behind your license plate, which would work well for your registration and such, too.

I do the exact same thing... we have a backup hidden in case the electricity is out when we come back. I can'r remember the last time I used a key to get into the house.

I just keep my keys n my front pant's pocket

Might seem a little old-school and low-tech, but it works for me.

I just carry a key snap that goes around my neck. Easy to wear, easy to detach once I get home. Can buy them at any convenience or dollar store.

LOL, first time in my life, that I've ever been called a genius....so surely you meant it in a joking way, which is more to what I'm used to LOL. However, the key snap thing around the neck works for me.

Oh no, I meant genius in the most sincere way. If I meant it in the "other way", I would have called you Einstein
