    Default Virgin Biker

    Hi all,

As you might have guessed i'm new to biking, very new in fact. I've just bought myself a ZX6R 636 and was wondering whether the Remus can that came on it is illegal or not?

    Gareth,

Welcome to the forum & to riding!! I love it & I'm sure you will too. I will tell you now, before EVERYONE else does. Find an MSF course & get into it. It really does help with the basics & beyond! Plus, it helps getting the MC license without taking the driving test at DMV. I'm not sure about the can, but there are many people here with lotsa information that should be able to help you. That's a pretty quick bike for your first...Be safe & do like I did...LEARN IN PARKING LOTS & BACK ROADS! The bad thing about that much bike when you're learning is, in a time of trouble..we tend to GRAB the handlebars, in turn...turning on all that power. I still ride on back streets that are pretty clear everywhere I go. I make sure I don't tailgate or speed around.
Please be careful & get some training! Again, welcome!!

By federal law, yes. Your exhaust is illegal. However, depending on the area you live in, you'll quite likely get a pass from the local constable unless you're revving the snot out of it, or somehow catching his attention in another manner. If the exhaust is just a slip on, you might watch Ebay for a cheap OEM one and keep it around. Just in case of fix-it tickets.

You'll also want to see if the bike has been rejetted/mapped for the pipe. Bikes run lean from the get go to pass EPA, and in rare instances, a slip on can lean the bike out to the point of running poorly or damaging the engine.
It's not how fast you go, it's how little you slow.
