I just completed the safety course last weekend. I am about 5'6 125lbs. I was thinking about a 650 v-star, but my dad has a 2006 vulcan classic 900 that he has been saving for me and will give me a great deal on. I'm afraid it might be too big, but I don't know. As far as height, it fits me fine. I guess I'm just a little scared I'll go too big for my first bike. The only time I've been on a bike (besides as a passenger) was last Sat & Sun (it was a 250). Any suggestions?

Been looking around these forums for the past two years, amazes me how nice the people on here are, I've been wanting to get into motorcycling for a long time and finally this spring took the course and got my license. Couldn't afford a bike this year, but my GF's dad was nice enough to let me ride around his V-Star 1100 Custom all summer, gorgious bike.

I've finally come across enough money to put a down payment on my bike 900 CUstom , so i'll be getting that in the next couple months. It's snowing here (Ontario, Canada) so im hoping i'll be able to snag a used one for a couple hundred under normal.

Anyways sorry for the long introduction just wanted to say hey and I think there's alot of great people on this site that help one another out.

Ya mean 'cause we're severely out-numbered, and have to put our bikes away for the winter?! Good luck with the 900!

    Default NewB

I call myself a newbee after not riding motorcycles for the better part of 25 years. Thanks for another location on the site to see what the other "new" riders are thinking. What I see is that I have the same questions and concerns and don't feel like such a boob! As otehr posters have said you have a great bunch of guys who are sharing their experiances and knowledge for the new guys who can get all the help they can find. "There are no dumb questions."
Well one question thats dumb, "should I sale the bike or stay married?"

Question Hello all and Happy New Year

I put this in the "welcome thread" then thought maybe it should go here. I am a prospective newbie looking to maybe buy an '86 Voyager XII. Not sure how I would search for this info. Would just like some help from you guys on what to look for. The bike has about 54K on it and supposedly the engine has only about 20K. What things should I check out before I buy it? I'll try to check on the battery and stator for proper charge. It rides well and engine sounds strong. It does have a whine from tranny or rear end that I would like to check on. Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I new to this forum and a newbie rider. I took the MSF course last August and purchased a 08 250 Ninja. I've put about 2000 miles on my bike, but I want to learn more techniques on how to ride safely/become a better rider. This looks like a great forum for me.

Talking Yay!!! I've hit the newbie 250 jackpot!!

I took my class/license 3yrs ago but didn't get a bike til this past november (08 ninja 250e) and I love it. Like you said, I'm interested in advice on good techniques, turns, compensating for winds(me and my bike don't weigh that much). And I want to become a more skilled rider. Any advice offered would be greatly appreciated. I just recently hit the 1000mile mark on my bike so my inexperience is very evident. But I am still very proud of that mark! Thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to the advice of experienced riders.

    Ride safe and Ride often!
