Smile 900 Classic New Rider

Just picked up my 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic (Blue), man do I feel good. Its my first street bike, I feel I got a good deal at $6800.00 - OTD price? Ordered MC engine guards and can not wait to install them. Any other advise, tips or mods?

You got a nice ride there. I got the same one in black. You can go crazy with mods. There are so many treads on this site on mods for your bike. Good luck with it

Welcome from another new Vulcan 900 owner. You will love the bike, take it easy at first. I cut my teeth on a 250 and that helped a lot to shorten the leanring curve. After you spend some time here you will learn a lot. Here is a site with lot's of great info: Gadget's Fixit Page For Kawasaki Nomad & Classic Modification Maintenance & Repair

One mod I am going to make soon is adding the Scootworks front pulley. Smooths out the ride at 70 MPH+ and corrects most of the speedo error that these bikes have when stock. The speedo is about 10% optimistic affecting both your speed and mileage readouts.

Have fun and be safe!

$6800.00 - OTD. Yes, that would be considered a good deal here in CA. I got my 900 classic new for $6,299 OTD but it is an '07 closeout.

All kinds of mod threads here on front pulley, tires, intake, FI fuel managers, debaffle, gear, rides - it doesn't seem to end and it's all good.

What does changing the front pulley do performance wise? Does this lower the rpm at high speeds? What do they cost?

Yes it lowers the rpms some. They are about 180bucks at scootworks.

Ride it a while, get use to it. Then you'll find out what you want to do to it. Good luck with the bike, hope you have many years of good riding.

Welcome to the site. I see you're from Cleveland. Hope your a Browns fan! You'll love the 900. I paid $7750 OTD for my 08. Yes, you got a good deal. Installing the guards is really easy. I have those same ones. You've already been bitten by the "bling" bug. It's a sickness that you can never get rid of. You can only embrace it and deal with it as best you can and your budget! Make sure you post some pics when you can. We're some pic Nazi's around here.

I can not wait to get the engine guards to install them. I will than get a pic. I know the 2 hr drive to Toledo was worth it for the $1000 savings compared to the local dealers. Thank all for your tips.

+1n Every rider and bike is different. Ride it for a while and you'll know what mods you want.

Day 1 of MSF course was not that bad. The videos actually were really informative. Day 2 was rainy but we road anyways. Boy am I glad I stopped and bought $10 rain gear. After riding a 200 Suzi Dual Porpose bike with narrow tires I really appreciate may fat tire 900. Wish me luck with Day 3. Oh yeah it was killing me to put the engine guards on. They look great and were easy to install.

Well the MSF course was great and was very informative. I fell I got alot out of it. But tonight going for a ride with 2 of my friends I did the one thing they told us not to do. Take my eyes off of the turn. WE were making a left turn and I was in the middle,; while thru the turn I looked in my mirror to see were my friend in the back was and took the turn too wide. Caught the concrete curb and laid it down. The crash bars saved my bike and I swear by them. All I really did is break the one rear turn signal and scratch the crash bar (nothing to the bike or me). It was a scare and was my first time down but I learned alot from it and was really lucky.
