As for the helmet, the head injuries are usually caused by the height of the fall, not the speed. Gary Busey was going pretty slow when he crashed and injured his brain. Now look at him. http://www.piradeas.com/wp-content/u...gg-0398661.jpg Ewwwww
Oh, Ouch!!! Okay, Okay, point made. Yikes!

Hopefully he is not a control freak and is just acting out, in his own way, his fear about you being in an accident and concern for you. Some girls like that stern father like figure ego thing... some don't.

I am not an ATGATT kind of guy, but I do insist on gear when we go on "serious" rides. My wife has a friend though who was involved in an accident riding her sport bike who was not wearing any gear. It was kind of the same situation that you were in. She dumped her bike while wearing shorts and a tank top; and suffered some serious road rash. She wasn't going fast enough to really hurt herself, but she will have scars for the rest of her life on her arms and legs. Me? No one cares. My wife? Well... let's just say that would be a tragedy. My wife is pretty bull-headed though and she does not always listen to me. Some lessons in life can only be learned on your own. It is a constant fear with me, for my kids and my wife, that they will "learn" a lesson and it will be the last thing they do. I am an existentialist though and believe that the value of a person's life is measured by how well they live it, not by my standard, but by their own. If they die doing something they love, then I will feel that in the grand scheme of things, their life was good and worthwhile, no matter how young or how tragically they died. I will just have to endure the grief afterwards, but... that is what I do.

Ride have fun. Be uncompromising and live your own life as you best see fit. But, please... do not feel compelled to learn every lesson on your own.

Not knowing what he wanted, but seeing the serious look on his face, I pulled the bike into its spot and kicked it into neutral. As soon as I did, he flipped the kill switch and pulled the keys out, immediately pocketing them. "No gear, no ride," my Nazi boyfriend said. Yes, it turned into an argument, a power of will and stubbornness. He won. And I'm grounded from the bike. 30 years old and grounded. I've been on my own since I was 16. I haven't had anyone telling me what to do in 14 years. I haven't had to answer to anyone but myself. And now... now I'm sternly "grounded". LOL

Not a control freak at all.... The agreement was "If you want me to teach you to ride, you will listen to me." and after 2 weeks of asking her to put her helmet and gear on... well I stopped asking and enforced the agreement.

From now on if she chooses not to wear her gear in this sand covered parking lot, *I* choose not to teach, and she will learn, through her own scars.

Sounds like you have a very controlling Nazi boyfriend.

Nah, he comes off rough around the edges, but he's really not all that gruff. I love that he cares, and sometimes I do need the "Nazi" approach to things like this. I never claimed to be easy to live with... lol

Just made a statement about somebody posting nude pictures on a motorcycle forum that started due to some members being banned here and starting up a anti BTK forum & posting over there & here also.

Glad to say I was banned from that hate filled site for making fun of the person who was posting naked pictures.

Seems double standards exist and thrive in some people.
Whatever the issues are...many of us are not privy to whatever knowledge you have (truthful or not) and that's not even the issue here. If you want to attack others take it offline so the flow of information can continue and the thread doesn't go to the trash. Openly attacking others is against BTK rules and that is what I am addressing here.

Anyway, I used the word "grounded" in a sarcastic nature, which is something negative about the web - you can't *read* sarcasm. It's cool guys! BF and I are very much alike. I can take what he dishes out. And that goes both ways. Its our dynamic. LOL But in the end, he, and everyone else here, is pretty correct in that I need to get used to wearing a helmet while riding. And I will. I guess my mood yesterday was volatile, and I wanted to do what I wanted and how I wanted. That's the stubborn streak in me. And he's right - if I don't heed his advice, I will end up learning from my own scars. Not something I wanna do.

Oh! But its okay to do to me because I'm the lil' woman, and he's bigger than me, and I wouldn't have the slightest chance of wrestling the keys away. And even if I try to get away will it, he has the ability to disable the bike so it wont start for me. Grr. I need some mechanically-inclined friends. lol

Well, he cares about you. So I guess that's wrong? What happens if you're doodling around the parking lot & lay it over and nail your noggin enough to bleed really good? Would you rather he blow it off and tell you to get over it?

Some guys are stricter than others. Some guys are willing to push the limit because they love their GF enough, that to them it's a worthwhile gamble, rather tick you off than take care of you for the rest of his life while you're in a wheelchair & unable to live without assisted living programs. I've seen people that messed up before. It's ugly.

Maybe you should sit down with him and discuss this. Tell him how you feel, but also listen to how he feels.

I know it's not the same thing. But look at what happened to that actress. Natashia Richardson. She was just skiing and banged her head. Sometimes it doesn't take a whole lot to do a lot of damage it appears..
