I lived in Oregon for a greater part of my life, after moving to missouri I was shocked at how people drive here. Do people here know what a turn signal is ? At least the higher speed limits and fewer cops make up for that .

I'm surprised that Oregon got such a high score, I didn't know the average driver there was such a.... "well educated driver".

I blame the fact that they are constantly changing the laws.

No, Vermont got an 86.6, but we always get the Mass., CT., R.I., and N.Y. drivers as our summer visitors. Worse yet, British visitors driving in from Mass. in rented cars.

But hey, I lived in Denver for a while and that's where I learned Red means keep going. You never started out first when the light turned green.

People in Idaho were OK, and people in the U.P. weren't bad drivers. I don't care if they don't speak english. LOL That's why I tend to stay in my own State these days. It keeps the blood pressure lower. (but not by much) LOL

The absolute worst place I have ever "driven" or ridden, is (I hate to say) Vancouver BC. It can be terrifying, crazies in BMW's everywhere. And nobody ever stops when the light turns red. Yield signs are ignored in full.
And I have driven in New York, LA, London, and All around Italy (which does take the cake for fastest drivers In my opinion)

You and me both! I lived in Bellingham and went to Vancouver a lot. My sister lives in Coquitlam. It was always a test of nerves.

I drive a lot for work so I take mental notes all day. Here's a few consistent daily things from Idaho and Montana.

75%-80% of tailgaters are younger female drivers (teens to 20's)

90% to 100% of all speeding BIG pickups are male drivers (30 to 50) and a really high percentage of big pickups DO speed.

In Montana, 75% of all luxo-barges are piloted by incompetent drivers (just wait for the first snowfall of the season)

Surprisingly there really aren't many luxo-barges (Escalade, Denali, Navigator, etc) in Boise. WAY more in NW Montana. Line of thinking must be... "Now that I'm in Montana I need a 4x4 so I can keep driving 70 when the roads get icy." At least they keep the body shops and towing companies in business.

Oh, thanks for reminding me. I agree with you, that place has the worst drivers ever.

Watch out for Toyota 4-Runners in Connecticut. I cringe every time I get passed by one while it speeds down the icy highway at 80MPH.

I can't understand how people can't pass a standard written road test. I got 100% when I took mine originally in Upstate New York (I wish the survey differentiated between Upstate NY and the city) as well as when I took one to transfer my license to Connecticut. I'm constantly appalled at the driving here, but I saw much better driving in NY state. Of course, it seems to get worse every time I go back, though.

NJ only came in at 3rd dumbest...the survey must be wrong. I've been in many states and by far, NJ drivers are the worse (me inlcuded )

Isn't that the truth, Oregon or Washington.

I think MA gets a bad rap....I lived there for 15 years, driving in boston every day, and then moved to CA Tahoe area. I've never seen more clueless drivers than since I moved here...it's a new and amazing obstacle course every day. I guess maybe it has to do with your definition of "bad driver" though. Definitely keeps me alert on the bike.
