Talking We finally brought home our baby African Grey!!!

Well, we were finally able to bring her home. She's just shy of 4 months old. And get this, she was born on my birthday!!! How crazy is that???!!! She was pretty nervous when we went to pick her up today. She bit me a couple of pretty good times. Never drew any blood but certainly let me know that she could have.

The ride home she was still freaking out a little. Finally she calmed down and realized that she could see this whole world out there. She sat up and was calm the rest of the ride home.

Once we got home she was still a little jumpy but you could tell that she had certainly calmed down. Once I got her cage together, I put her in there so she could be comfortable without the dogs bothering her. Well, I went to walk passed the cage and she started chirping for me to get her. I opened the cage and she came right to my hand. I then sat on the couch with her and she proceeded to make all kinds of cute noises and started to "groom" me! She was nibbling all over my face, ear, neck and hair (what little I have). It was AWESOME!!! I never expected her to warm up to me that quick. She's started to bond with my wife already too.

As I'm typing this she is actually asleep on my shoulder! First day and she's already comfortable. We couldn't be happier!

We named her Scarlet. Some of you might know that I'm a huge Ohio State fan. Well, the Buckeye's colors are scarlet and grey. So we have Scarlet Grey.

Here are some pics.

Eating some apple right after we got home.

that's beautiful b1rd. sounds like she's from a good breeder that raised her with plenty of care and attention.

friend had one and she mimicked just about everybody and the strangest noises from the aquarium to the vacuum cleaner.

Thanks for all of the compliments. She has turned out to be much sweeter than we planned. The breeder said that it would probably take a week or so for her to warm up to us. We certainly didn't expect this, but we'll take it.

Thanks! It was funny though. She was put to bed and had the blanket on her cage. Well, we heard her eating and decided to take a peak. Man, did she let us know she didn't want to be bothered! Hissed and bit at the cage. It was like she was saying, "Look, just because you heard me doesn't mean I want to be bothered!" Man, attitude just like all the other women in this family!

LOL! I told my wife Scarlet fit right in with the women of this family!

It's pretty cool. I was wondering if last night was a fluke but she is just as sweet today. She squawked at me when I walked by her cage without saying anything. It's true when they say that they're like a kid.

I was nervous that I was going to be scared of her. My wife had a Cockatiel when we were dating and I was terrified of that bird. Ever since Scarlet got me those first couple of times it actually completely relaxed me. I didn't expect to feel this attached to her this quickly.

Very Pretty and healthy looking Grey, we are bitd people and currently have 3 Amazons and a pair of Cookatiels. We intend to get a Grey in the future. I have about 20 different whistles ready to teach it and hope to teach it to sing. Hope the little rascal doesnt pick up too many crazy noises like the phone, door and whatever. Very smart birds! broke my heart we had to get rid of our Umbrella Cockatoo recently as she was getting un manageable and wanted all of our attention all the time and would cry if any lights are on in the house. She is in a good home (he is deaf)!! LOL very bad hearing anyway. Enjoy her.

I love African Greys. Congrats. Nice looking parrot. I used to date someone who had a brother who had one. They are great birds. If I didn't have cats, I would have one.
