Default Finally Doing It...

Maybe this was the push I needed. Doing the math, finding out exactly how much we spend on cigarettes a month, and realizing how that money could help in other areas. I've been meaning to quit smoking. Been wanting to quit smoking. The kids have expressed their desire for us to quit. And maybe this is the time. Smoked my last cigarette last night.

I layed in bed awake for a while, making a mental list of all the positive things that will come out of no longer smoking:
1. more money stays in the home
2. I can smell my shampoo again
3. I'll be more inclined to keep the house clean [nic-fits are a b*tch]
4. The kids will be very happy
5. My clothes will smell better
6. I won't be controlled by something
7. And I can *punish* myself by taking a walk around the apartment complex whenever I get the urge to smoke... that'll keep the weight off, and maybe I'll even lose those last 30 pounds I've been wanting to shed.

I fell asleep feeling empowered and ready to kick the habit. But then this morning... heard Bret's alarm go off, felt him roll out of bed, heard the toilet flush and the microwave zapping a cold cup of coffee. And I suddenly felt the urge for a smoke. Dammit, what am I doing? This day is gonna suck a**.

I got out of bed, with a little rough coaxing from Bret: ie. ripping the blankets off me and dragging me across the bed by my feet. Sat on the couch and ate a bowl of cereal. Bret nuked another cup of coffee and sat at his computer, fidgeting like a crackhead. Oh good lord, its gonna be a long day. I already made him promise he wouldn't leave me during this cold-turkey time. And he promised he wouldn't, if I didn't hold it against him when he grunts and glares a lot more, speaking less and less. This first week is gonna be a nightmare for the both of us.

Encouragement people, PLEASE!!!
I need a hug.

Well here's a cyber hug. The first part is making your mind up that its what you want to do. Attitude is everything. Good luck and I hope you kick it!

Best of luck with it. I did it a few years ago, going cold-turkey. Drove me crazy for a while, and probably bit a few heads off of loved ones too.

You'll make it.

If you feel the need, put the helmet on and close the shield so you can't smoke. LOL

Best of luck to you. One thing I'll really recommend is if others are smoking around you, just remove yourself from the situation and catch up with them later when they're done. It's kind of like being an alchoholic and going to a bar. Stay strong and best of luck.

Okay, its 9:30am, and Bret decided that because of the rain, he would come home from work. [deep, calm breathing] HE'S DRIVING ME INSANE!!!! I'm trying to keep myself busy, doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, etc. I'm even contemplating taking a walk in this p*ss-pouring rain, just to get out of the apartment. And he's... ugh... he's following me around the apartment, picking at me. The boy likes to play with fire, I'll give him that.

Well then I guess he has a girl's name. Seems ok since I have a boy's name. My birth name is Elisha, pronounced Ee-lie-sha. So we're perfect for each other.

On another note, I found a hammer on the floor on his side of the bed... should I be concerned? lol

I can tell you. When I woke up from a major heart attack. The DR. said if you smoked or drank extensively you would be dead!!! The way I quit, was I thought to myself why wait for a Dr. to tell me to quit. Just do it on your own. The only problem was the fact it was so easy that it pi$$ed me off. If I only new how easy it was to quit I would have quit years ago.

Its not easy for me. It wasn't 5 years ago when I quit, and it isn't easy today either. I have a very addictive personality. That's why I stayed away from the harder drugs in my *experimental* years - I knew I would get hooked. I didn't even have a cup of coffee this morning because the cigarette needs to be with it. So on top of nic-fitting hardcore, I'm also shaky from the caffeine withdrawals. A pillar of warm, gushy, fluffy love right now - that's me. lol

Good luck!
Push ups helped me through the worst of the nic fits
... and I mean push ups as fast as you can, for as many as you can, till you can't do any more. That way your arms get too tired to lift a cig

Well there you go! Nothing is easy, if it was, everyone would do it

By the end of the day you could potentially do over 100 push ups
Burn calories and not smoke = win/win

(Pull ups are better, since they can work/tire out almost your whole upper body, but there usually aren't any good places in an average home to do them)
