Default Best rock band in the world !!!!

Ok, maybe I am biased but I've been having a heavy conversation with a mate of mine for several days now and I want the Kawa community to back me up !!!

If you could have the choice of choosing the best Rock band in the world, who would it be ?

A) U2

B) ROLLING STONES

I'm not going to give it away who my choice is, I can only say, these guys will NEVER EVER be equalled !!!!

You must mean currently still rocking. As for one of them, rocking chair probably would best describe them.

I would not choose either of them as best. But, if I had to choose between the two, U2 would be my choice.

Neither.

Can't stand U2. Edge's tone hurts my ears, and Bono is an ostentatious twit.
Stones are good, but have never been in my "top 10" and I don't own any Stones albums (or even have any MP3s).

Since they are the only available choices I'd have to go with the Stones. Seen them twice and really enjoyed both shows. I've never been much of a U2 fan. If U2 comes on the radio I'll often switch channels.

I'm not a big Stones fan, however you have to give them credit, they've been a main stream rock band during 5 decades, is there anyone else that's done that?

Haven't actually seen the 'Stones live, and honestly have no interest in ever seeing them. I've seen U2 twice, and will be going back to see them again next month. They put on a fantastic show, the sound quality is the best I've ever heard at any concert I've ever seen. And they play hard for the duration, they certainly give the concert-goers their moneys worth.
Last time I saw U2, they did not have an opening band either. They played for a good 3 hours, all themselves.

I honestly couldn't pick just one.
Ozzy/Sabbath/Aerosmith/Stevie Ray Vaughn/Zep/Who/MSG/UFO/Scorpions/Metallica/Rush/BB King/Foo Fighters....

I love them all, and more, but if I had to pick ONE band to be stuck on a desert island with for 10 years, I'd take Lita Ford and a pair of ear plugs.
No matter how much I like any band, I can't listen to any one band for more than one album. Gotta change it up.
I can listen to one genre all day, and different genres depending on my mood (not going to listen to Blues while I'm getting some ink), but I can only handle so much of one band/singer.

And that's probably a big part of why I can't stand the Police/Sting or U2... radio stations overplayed the hell out of them in the 80s.

Ted Nugent, Ozzy, Blackmore, Clapton, Page/Plant, The Who....

They've all been pretty continuously active as headlining acts since the late 60s. Even the Stones have taken a few breaks.

Agree with Ozzy, Sabbath, Who, Aerosmith and Foo Fighters.

Even though I am deep down a rock person, I like (swallows in anticipation), Marilyn Manson..........sorry mate.

Can't stand Bon Jovi or any of those "sugary" rock bands.

I'm with you on the U2 mate, Bono is on tv with his pretentious idiotic ways. I really can't stand the guy, he's so self sanctimonious.

Being honest, tracks like Sunday Bloody Sunday and some of their earlier work, I could listen to. Not BUY, just listen to.
But then they took the commercial highway and for me it went downhill from then on.

The friend I was talking about is a massive U2 fan and he just can't understand why I don't like them. He's thick, so what does he know......

I'm no U2 groupie by any means, but I'd tend to think the commerical highway follwed the band, not the other way around. I've read a number U2 biographies, and if anything, thru the past 30 years they have stayed true to making the music they have wanted. People just keep buying their records, and that is what makes them "commercial."
As far being irritated by Bono personally, I can see that. Though he has certainly put his money where his mouth is in regards to supporting the ideals he believes in. You and I may not agree with his views or open opinions, but at least he is not a talking head.

Greatest rock band of all time? Rush, of course. duh

Other great bands (in no particular order) that are often mentioned and I like...

Led Zep
The Who
Pink Floyd

... but, I like a lot of stuff, including Bon Jovi. U2 and The Rollings Stones though? Not a big fan, but between them, The Stones are probably the best. U2 just makes me want to drink Draino.

Maybe he does put lots of money into charities etc etc, but so do many other singers/bands, they don't go ON about it.
Elton John has given millions to the AIDS charities around the world but he pales into insignificence when it comes down with Bono.

I get where you're coming from about the commercial spiral around U2 but some of their tracks like Disco etc were horrible. You are right though, the public will buy anything that has the brand U2 on it, maybe the same thing can be said about the Stones but I have to bow my head when they give a show of 3 hours...................AT THEIR AGE !!
Not only that though, the hundreds of tracks Jagger/Richards have written together, the booze, the drugs, the women, you name it, they've done it and more so.
I know they may not be the best band in the world but to me they are so much more, in a couple of years, they've been going for 50 years, what an achievement. I just can't see Bono and his entourage being around for that long..................actually, I think it will never be done again, by any band.

But like I said in my opening thread..................I'm biased.

Between those two, I'd have to go with U2...but neither would be anywhere near my top 10.

Led Zeppelin, Counting Crows, Bob Seger (and the Silver Bullet Band), Aerosmith, Eagles, Metallica, Sammy Hagar (solo, Montrose, Van Halen, HSAS, solo again...haven't listened to Chickenfoot yet), Rush, Queen, Incubus, AC/DC, Linkin Park, ...

There are a lot of bands I'd rather listen to than the 'Stones or U2. The 'Stones are widely considered in the top 3 of all time (Beatles, Led Zep, 'Stones)...but I've never really been a fan. There are a few songs I like...but over the course of 40+ years, how could there not be?

Edit: Can't remember where I heard those three were tops...but I know it wasn't all genres...so take that with a grain of salt.

Out of the two, I'd have to pick the Stones, I don't think it would be close. They aren't my favorite, but I make no claims to impeccable taste.
True story: A friend offered me a ticket to the Stones when I was 14 years old, and I turned him down. All I really knew was "Angie", which I had seen on Don Kirschner, and Jagger seemed mighty girlie to me, so I said no. That was their 1975 tour, thought by many to be their best. I've never lived it down. I still get crap from people when I get together with old friends, and I guess I will always regret that choice.

If I was forced to choose between those two, I'd have to go with the slightly less annoying Rolling Stones. The choices should be:

A) Metallica
B) Rammstein

Eddie, you ever see KISS in their horrible pink tights late 80's get-up? Wow! That was terrible on a whole new scale. At least when I saw them, Anthrax opened (and stole the show) so it wasn't a total loss......
