Doubt it. Hood alone has over 50,000 Soldiers there. That's not including the families, civilans, and DOD workers there. It would take hours to get through the gate if they searched complete enough to find something on everyone.

IMO, unless you work on the base, are a family member or visiting family member of a Soldier on base, you don't need to be on the base.

Yep, if they tightened it up dramatically, it would be a Charlie Foxtrot. Literally hundreds - if not thousands - go through the gates each morning for work here. That doesn't count deliveries, mail, students and the daily comings and goings of the residents. I've waited in line for 45 mins to get to school just cuz it was busy that day.

It just can't be done both thoroughly *and* efficiently

I drive on to Ft. Leavenworth twice a week. If you have a Fort sticker, you go to those lanes, show em your ID and you're through the stop.

If you are a non-stickered civ, you go through that lane, open your trunk, doors, hood and glove box. They take a cursory glance in each area, give you back your DL and you're good to go.

It'd be a piece of cake to go in armed.

No dogs or random searches? They've slacked up quite a bit in the last few years then. Sounds like deployments have gotten too routine.

Exactly. When 9/11 happened it was different. If you didn't have an ID you didn't get on base. It's not like Area 51 at bases where you can't even get close. Real security would be a nightmare. And by that I mean the way the search people coming in and out of bases in Iraq. It would take forever.

It's like anything else, something happens and things tighten up for awhile. Then things go back to "normal" until something happens again. Americans would never allow what it would really take for things to be secure.

They do do random searches on vehicles coming through. But at least at Bragg no dogs are used. I think things will change a little bit once FORSCOM gets here. They are already making some changes. There is a main road that cuts right through Bragg. There are gates set up so someone still has to go through to get on base, but the General for FORSCOM said he didn't like that. They are going to block off the road and close the two sections together. Traffic is going to be rerouted around base. Civilans don't like it but I do.

True. Discussion I was having with facility manager for a school district a few years back about making schools secure. Went something like, yeah, we can do it but do you really want your high school to look like a prison? No? - So lets throw up a couple of un-manned metal detectors at the main entrance. Waste of money.

The story on MSN said he was Muslim, and that was part of the reason why he went crazy. because he was getting sh!t for it. But, his family has been in the U.S. for a while so i don't think he was part of a sleeper cell or anything.
