We have a big industrial building down the street from where I work with a windmill and solar panels on the roof. The story is they are completely self-sustaining and don't use any power off the grid.

I like the idea of having my own wind generator and disconecting from the grid. But you have to store the energy from wind or solar. Batteries are heavy and bulky and expensive. My boss is thinkin in terms of compressed air. Let the wind mill pump air. Easy to store compresseed air. They do make compressed air motors......IDK just another alternative to pnder

I am kinda of the opinion that we may not find somethin cheaper AND cleaner. We may have to sacrifice some cost/mileage/convenience/somethin....in order to stop the Beast that is oil consumption.

Vehicles running on E85 are getting 20 to 30% less mileage. But, That is only 15% petroleum. I can live with that.

What about the all-electric car. There are two (that I know of) out there now. It will cost $$ to put ports up to plug into, and that electricity has to come from some where, but it cuts oil right out of the equation.

However, petroleum is in so many things. Can't have rubber tires without petroleum.

Me too. But then they cry about all the "corn that is taken from food and catttle" But what is left after E85 is made can still be used as cattle feed. Double use of a kernel.....makes good sense to me

Plus petroleum is used in production of electricity, they tell me. Or coal

I thought I read something once about taking the power of the tides in the ocean and converting it to electricity. Technically, all you need is an outside source to spin a wheel (alternator) and somehere to store the power. Seems preety damn simple really.

If there is a corn shortage why are they flooding hundreds of farm acres in Missouri to save a small town in Illinois?

The big hurdle in my mind is the scale it must be produced on. That is why I like the self sufficient type thing. That way one plant doesn't have to power zillions of people......just me and fark everbuddy else

Because the fields in Missouri are in the flood plane spilll way or what ever

I don't know enough about that to have an opinion but seems to me if they put the levy there for a reason it should not be cut. If its breeched fine. BUt why build it then cut it?

So a windmill in every yard type of deal? If you let your windmall go to sh!t then you got no power. Sounds good to me. It would create a whole new industry of repair men, parts manufacturers, factories, etc.

Nice job Trent. We solved the world's energy crisis and unemployment problem.

Of course. I'd settle for a couple weeks off, sunny days, and no place to go.
