Always makes me laugh.

Anything with "Windows Mobile 5". The "Palm" software is fading and WM5 is leading the way.
Ipaq's, Dell Axim's, use WM5. Their good.

if you go to Holux's website, I believe they make PDA's with built in GPS units. If memory serves, so does Garmin.
if at first you don't succeed, skydiving is NOT the sport for you....

garmin has a 3600 series, the "A" being for pilots, the regular for ground, has a integrated gps, uses palm software, and I believe an sd card expansion slot.
check on garmins website, there may be others, but I havent looked in a long time

"Windows Mobile" is basically a stripped down version of Windows, so it looks and acts much like your average desktop computer, unlike the "Palm" operating system which uses their own proprietary interface.
There are more and more Plug-ins, and compatible Software including GPS for Windows Mobile, so it lets you do more with your PDA than ever before.
Personally I'm partial to the Axim X51v, but then I come by it honestly since I work for Dell and we have a few of them in the Lab.
But any of the name brands that offer a Windows Mobile device should be fine. Just choose the one that does what you want it to, and fits your budget.

+1 on the Dell's. Very good PDA.
I have an "older" Axim X3i. Great piece of equipment. I'm considering getting the GPS unit that is available for it.Originally Posted by cbsqrd
Of course, now that the Treos are using Windows Mobile, I wouldn't mind having one of those - if they ever get any cheaper. My Axim cost about 1/3 of the price of the Treo. For that price difference, I'll continue to carry my PDA and a separate phone for a while. Besides, the service committments that go along with the hardware are getting longer all the time.

Dell Axim is great. I have a GPS unit from Pharos that works with the PDA via Bluetooth (wireless). So I can put this Oreo cookie sized deal on the dashboard and it beams the data to the mapping software on the Axim.
If you're buying primarily for the GPS function, I'd go with a Garmin. If you'd just like to have GPS from time to time in addition to your regular features, I'd go with the Dell Axim and seperate GPS unit. They have wireless and some that plug in to the unit.

The new Axims also include both an SD slot and a Flash card slot, so if you get a plug-in model, it won't steal your memory slot.Originally Posted by Bodie
Personally, I can't wait until we can make real use of the GPS locators in cell phones by using them as actual GPS mapping devices. A few already are, but it would be nice if the rest caught up.
