Default The bug that bites!!!

Went cruising Sunday 8/20 for the first long ride on my new purchase of a KZ650. I made a round trip from va bch ,VA to knotts island, NC. (40miles round trip) It was pretty hot (95)so I unzipped the jacket to let some air in. On the ride back I was turning a nice corner at 65mph and smashed head on into what I thought was a beetle or some other blind bug that can't see my bright yellow johnny rocket jacket or my full face silver helmet. It bounced off my chest and I thought nothing of it. Hitting bugs isn't a biggie in that neck of the woods. However, I started getting this pain in my stomach. I thought it was my empty stomach rejecting the grapefruit juice I had for (not with) breakfast. Then it happened again, but much worse this time. So I started hitting my stomach because I thought the damned bug was biting me. I must have looked like an idiot, but hey, I was alone. Hitting myself in the spot of pain made it hurt like hell (go figure), so I pulled over. Opened the jacket and the wasp fell out , still kicking. Then I began kicking "IT", ok it was more like stomping. I pulled away still in pain but managing. That's when I thanked GOD that I wasn't allergic to bee's or wasp's. I'd have been a goner out there in the middle of nowhere by myself. My friend Al says his friend had a similar incident, but it stung him five times in the chest and he had to go to the hospital because he couldn't breath. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm fine, and yes it swelled up. It's still swelled up to this day. I finally realized the stinger was still in me yesterday so I pulled it out and it seems to be better. It itches more then anything. But hey, why cry. I live to ride again.

That's one way to get a fat lip while riding. However, it's not the method that Arnold Swartzenegger recommends.

Got hit by a bee on the left hand while riding once. Got into a next of hornets in Austin when I was a kid. THAT is not fun....

Nancy got hit by a bee when we were on a boat about 2 miles out to sea in Hawaii.

Good thing that neither of us are alergic...

Last year at about 70 mph I got a yellow jacket stuck between my face & the helment foam in front of my right ear!. He ate my azz up!! Got me 4 times before I could get stopped. He got away when I ripped my helment off.
Fortunately, I'm not alergic & suffered only a little swelling for a day or two BUT, being the sensetive type guy I am, I did take it personally! Since that day I have beat the cold he11 out of many a yellow jacket with my trusty flat point shovel & am gonna keep doin so forevermore. I hope that little bass turd realizes the wrath he has brought upon his own race!

For the love of...how big was it? How fast were you going?

On a side note, I wonder what it's like to hit a horsefly in the face shield at 70mph.

once, back in 1969, i was riding with friends when i got stung right on the nipple through my t-shirt. man did that hurt. i doubled over and the girl on the back thought we were going down. i pulled over into a gas station, removed the stinger and recovered quickly. it's stayed with me all these years because it was so sudden, so painfull and so unexpected.

Yep, I'm not a big fan of bees. I still remember my friend Kevin and I had spent a day riding his "monkey bike" around his front yard. Hit the wading pool to cool off. A yellow jacket (hornet type, not wasp type) swam into his trunks, and stung him (on his little head). He missed school for the next week (had to wait for the catheter to come out). We were in first or second grade.

I was doing about 70 mph and it was a fairly big bumble bee. I saw it just at the last second.

Always check your pop when drinking outside. A wasp climbed into a bottle of Ginger Ale my Bro was drinking and stung him in the throat, needless to say it was a trip to the emergancy room.

YEEOUCH!! OK, you win. I thought my story was going to be a good one, but no way could it top this one. BTW, I'm just guessing there was no need for the Viagra prescription that week...
