+1 to that. I keep telling my gf that...all things in moderation. If you are going to keep it off, everything I read says that you have to make a total life change and just do it.

Anything else, is just a diet, and the weight will come back, as soon as you go back to eating the way you did before.

Her diet, http://www.sparkpeople.com is just that...it's a lot of changes. We have made most of them, and any of the other ones...we'll get too. And, of course, I gotta quit smoking. LOL

Well, if I manage to get skinny by then, I'll have Alan sit on you instead.

Is that better?

Hello, my name is Keith and I'm an over-eater.....

Count me in. I'm on a diet too! Been doing pretty good so far. I'm down 12 pounds since the first of the month. Most of this has been by simply reducing the portion size I eat and cutting out snacks.

Good for you, Keith! That just shows how some fairly simple changes can make a huge difference.

While I'm a big guy, I'm happy with my size. I want to be this big. I do want to be healthier though. I consume a lot of calories and try to burn off as much as possible, going to the gym for cardio and lifting a lot while I'm here at the house as well. I was playing racquetball a couple three days a week but my partner quit on me, so that's kinda gone.

I eat what I want and drink a lot of water. I found that half the time I was hungry, it was actually a need for water. Which helped a lot.

I think the biggest problem I've got is my love of beer. Too often I get good deals on Guinness pitchers here in Aggieville, and it's recently given me quite the beer belly.

On a side-note, I'm about to ditch the Yamaha and go back to a sportbike ('99 ZX9R), so I might have to make the trip up to Red Lodge. It'd be something different than the normal routine I've got nowadays. Then we can all show off the fruits of our efforts, hopefully I'll be bigger but healthier.

I have had ups and down with my weight all my life starting at age 13. In high school I was 245 lbs. At 21, I decided it is time to do something so I joined a gym, weight training and watch the food and got down to 175. Stayed with it until I changed jobs at age 30 and no more gym near the new job, no working out so started the garbage eating again and went up to 230 for the next 10 years. At age 40, changed jobs again, joined the gym 2 miles away, maintained a very high protein diet with low carbs and low fat and heavy weightraining and not only got down to 170 but was training with a coworker who happened to be a power lifter so now I do it right and the chest, back , arms etc are bigger than they ever were in my younger life. So at almost 49, I am in better shape now that I ever was before this. I do drink at least 3/4 of a gallon to one gallon of water every day. Some of you may find the book Body For Life by Bill Phillips
to be very good reading and an inspiration. If you guys can weighttrain, the more muscle you gain, the higher your natural resting metabolism will be in order to maintain the muscle, so you naturally burn more even at rest. Even if you only partially followed the book, you will reap awesome results.

Thank you for explaining all this and what you went through. I am at the same point basically. Several years ago I suddenly "woke up" and realized I had let myself get WAY TOO big!!!! I lost weight by reducing my carb intake. It was amazing, but the weight melted right off. Well, over the years I have NOT gained that back, but this past winter I realized that I am letting myself creep back up again.

So, this time one of my best friend's and I have decided to join a gym. She checked some out last night, brought me brochures and will take me around to see them this weekend. When I dropped all my weight before, I did touch on weight-lifting a bit. A good friend got me all excited because he was doing it. Bought my own weight bench, etc.... I remember the good feelings after a work out!!! The problem was, doing it at home I found I made more and more excuses to not "have time". This time I want to start out with a trainer to help push me!!!!!

Finally, my hubby and I are seeing our family doctor tomorrow to get Chantix. We are both eager to quit smoking too.

We have TWO beach vacations already planned this summer. Myrtle Beach for bike week with one brother and his friends, and then Orlando, FL with my other brother and mother. I am also a "real" biker babe now, so I have GOT to get in shape!!!!! I can't sport the sexy leather wear looking like this!

Hey, maybe as another incentive for myself, if I reach my goal by July, I will come to RL to meet everybody!!!!

Okay, I will step back down from the podium!!!! I have made my public speech and committment to quit smoking and get in shape this year!!!!!! I look forward to doing it with all you wonderful and supportive friends

Julie,

What I didn't mention in my previous post (I was trying to be positive) is a recent visit to the Dr's office. I found out a few things that made my eyebrows go up. The Dr told me I am pre-diabetic and I have high blood pressure and she explained that a good diet and regular excercise could help with this. My goal is actually to get that under control first so we began to excercise before we started the Nutri System program. Once we were able to see how the food tasted and how convienient it is we opted to keep going with it.

While it's really important to tailor what we all eat it's equally important to construct some sort of excercise program that can help with some health issues. That can be easier said then done...especially if you suffer with any kind of physical impairment due to injury or other health problems.

Keeping up with the regular excercise has been more of a challenge for me as I deal with injuries that cause my body to suffer at times that requires me to take pain medications. When things are at that stage the last thing I want to do is excercise. I've found that when I am feeling better and am not experiencing the pain associated with the old injuries/surgeries then the excercising moderately really does help with the overall feelings of well being.

Keep up the good work...all of you...and do your best...and eventually you'll see changes begin to occur. It's taking the first step that can be the hardest and then to be consistant can be equally challenging...but it is possible with the proper thinking and attitude.

Good health to all!
