Sounds like you enjoy what you are doing. I'll wander through this thread to see what else is going on.
Yep, I'm taking supplements. And you know what's funny? I think I'm getting much better nutrition now that I'm just eating plants! My diet was NOT good before; I was eating too much crap and not enough nutritional food. So this is a very big improvement for me. I'm getting plenty of protein, and I'm taking supplements and using certain food items for the things I might be lacking (I just discovered nutritional yeast!).

I have a couple of friends who have been vegans for almost 30 years. They're both quite healthy.

I thought about joining Curves, but their hours just don't work for me. I wish they were open later at night and all weekend. They seem to be geared more toward women who don't work.

I've been doing a lot of walking. We live next to a paved trail, and it's kind of hilly. I got a really good workout during my lunch hour today. Was a little out of breath, and I could feel several sets of muscles working hard. But I need to do start doing some strength and resistance training. I have some hand weights here at home and some pretty decent DVDs. I'm not sure that's enough, though... Probably need to join a gym with some real weight machines.

Good for you Jul! I need to do all of the above...I'm really disappointed in myself for NOT doing it...but I walked tonight with my pup...but, and this is an excuse for sure...working in a restaurant is dangerous for me...I wish you well with this...and it's really the "health" of it that's important.

Last summer, when we were getting ready to go to Red Lodge, I was kicking myself for not getting on the bandwagon earlier in the year. I don't want to have to tell myself that *again* this summer! What I'm fighting now is the panicky feeling of wanting to lose all my weight RIGHT NOW. I have to realize it's a slow process and that my main concern is getting healthy and feeling good (which has already happened). Patience, Julie...

I'm really lucky that I work at home and live near this beautiful trail. I was thinking today that I should take some pictures when I walk tomorrow to show you guys what it's like. Very pretty. And at one end of the trail--about half a mile from our house--they're expanding the existing park and adding all kinds of cool amenities. I'll be able to go there and do all kinds of fun physical things. They're even going to have a climbing wall!

I found some pictures of the trail. This trail runs from one corner of town to the other--it covers about 15-20 miles, and they're still expanding it. It goes through tunnels under the major roadways, so you never have to leave the trail to get to the other side of town. Lots of people walking, riding bicycles, jogging, rollerblading, etc. And, best of all, I can get onto the trail just two blocks from my house. I sure missed being able to walk on it when it was covered with three feet of snow.

Re your injuries have you thought about getting a spa? You know with the jets etc. It really helps some people and besides it's fun. Cold night, hop in the water.....ahhhhhh.

I have a recurring back problem due to a car accident a few years ago and keeping limber is the only thing that helps (sometimes), also some knee problems etc etc. I go to Curves, go on walks on non Cuves days and do daily stretches but somedays it's really hard to move. You are an inspiration, if you can work your way through your greater issues then doggonit so can I!
DD, thanks for your vote of confidence!

We did buy a hot tub this winter and I use it every night. I LOVE IT!!!!!

The excercise I do is on the treadmill and the total gym and so far...so good. With the dark winter nights it's easy to use the equipment here and keeping a regualr schedule is the key part to it all. I've gotten pretty good at excercising regularly so things will get better with time. I'm currently going to PT 3 days a week and that helps also.

We all have our struggles and like you said...if you can keep a positive attitude it does help. Sometimes we have to re-group and start again.

Well, I am on the road to being smoke free. My doctor ok'ed the use of Chantix, so...off I go. LOL I am told that you need to build up some of that stuff in your system before your official quit date, so they suggest setting it one week later, to give you body some time.

So, next Tuesday is my official date, and I'll be cutting them out where I can, and want to until then.

Right now, I smoke about 1/2 pack a day. So, I'm going to be able to cut them out completely by Tuesday, I think.

Congrats DarkWolf! Thats gonna have to be my next goal. Our company is going tobbaco free at the beginning of 08 and I really need to quit anyway. I have had the habit for 30years and never tried to quit. I admire your challenge and wish you great success.

I know about the hours. I actually go before work as my local curves opens at 7 am during the week and shorter hours on Sat. I can get in a session and get back in time to take a shower and go to work. Many curves are run by one or two women who have to divide up the schedule and for one reason or another can't work the odd hours. Have you contacted the local curves to see if they are considering an adjustment?

Walking is terrific, I do that as well as long as my back holds out. What DVDs do you like? One of my favorite exercise tapes was a Richard Simmons early tape. I got a really good work out and it was fun. Now I only have a dvd player and can't seem to find the older exercise tapes on DVD. This thread is great. I like the positive self help aspect.

I have several Richard Simmons videos. They really are fun. Sometimes I just put music on and dance around my bedroom.

Another thing I've discovered that's fun is to wear my iPod when I'm walking on my treadmill. I set it to shuffle, and then whatever song comes on, that's the pace I walk (or jog, as the case may be). Sometimes it'll be a really fast one and once in a while a slow song. I never know what's coming next. It helps me mix up my workout and keep it a little more interesting.

The stair climbing is getting easier. I'm adding more floors/flights to the regimen.

I should start going to the weight room next week.

That's great, Tod! I don't get out much because I work at home, but when I do I try to park far away from places (which has the added bonus of not having people crunch your car with their doors) and take stairs instead of elevators. I think those things really add up. And you're strenghening lots of muscles doing those stairs all the time. Yay!

One thing I decided to always do is take the time to walk down the shopping center near our house instead of driving (unless I need to bring home a car full of groceries). I used to jump in the car to go pick up a prescription or something similar. It's only half a mile away. I'm going to walk from now on! I was planning to do that during my lunch hour today, but it's snowing really hard. I might have to wait a bit...

I'll forewarn you, it does recommend that you eat something while taking it. I didn't this morning....I won't do that again. LOL It has the ability to make you dizzy.

My insurance doesn't cover it either, and it's $133 bucks. But, I guess if makes me able to quit...it's worth the money.

I won't tell you what it's doing, because I'm not sure whether it's the cold/flu I have had since the weekend, the Omxicyllin (SP?), or the Chantix, but something....is making these things taste terrible. LOL I'm on the...I'm gonna kill someone smoke break now. The work yucky doesn't seem to cut it. LOL

Billy...Thanks for the kind words of support.

I'll be the first to admit, I have tried to quit before it hasn't worked. But, what ever is making these things taste like they do....I hope it hangs around for awhile.
