Well, you are looking lighter, leaner, (possibly meaner)
Good job.

It's a performance thing.

I can now sit on the bottom of the swimming pool without moving.
Build lean muscle mass, it builds character at the same time.

That is a cool self quote!
I surveyed the layout for Lake Forest (100 years ago it seems).
Nice place to live, convenient yet not urban jammed.
Like the looks of your avatar ride, where do you store the sword while riding?
(sometimes I would like to carry one again!)

lol that is a Montey Python toy superimposed on a pic of the bike. The sword collapses and goes in the trunk (sadly, it too is a toy )

One of the adverse effects of losing so much weight has been my that my leather jacket is now too big, and I fear that it will scoot up on me in the event of a slide. I don't have $400 to replace it right now so I have been wearing my textile jacket allot more. Winter commeth... guess I should start saving now eh?

Good problems to have though =-D

G'morning. Back in January of this year, I was 230 pounds, a size 22/24, and felt like crap every day. I left my husband, moved into my own apartment, started eating more salads (spinach leaves, almonds, carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, tomatoes, w/ ranch dressing) and walking about 2 miles every morning.

By June I was a size 14 and weighed 180 pounds. I slacked off a little bit by July, only walking about 3-4 times a week, but still *watched* what I was putting into my mouth. Ive never been a morning eater, but I forced myself to start eating breakfast which typically contained toast with jelly, or a yogurt, and a bowl of Special K cereal. I still skip lunch more than I should, but I try very hard to pack a salad for work. For dinner, I eat whatever my boyfriend cooks, which is normally a pretty decent meal. If I absolutely have to have a snack in the p.m. hours, I grab microwave popcorn.

In August, I decided the cooler weather in the morning was affecting my drive to walk, so I joined a gym. On the treadmill, I walk with the incline set at 5.0 minimum, speed set at 3.0mph, and I do no less than 2 miles. I'm now a size 12 and weigh in at 165 pounds. My goal is a size 8 (two more sizes to drop) and around 140 pounds, which my doctor says would be ideal and healthy for my height and bmi.

I've found in the past years that dieting never works for me. Once I limit myself to something, I crave it even more. If I just *fool* myself by saying, "I can have whatever I want," I've found that I dont want it. I only exercise when I want to. If my heart's not into it, I only waste time giving a half-a** workout. So if I dont want to workout, I just dont. And it works for me. I dont limit myself, and I dont put forth any kind of expectations. I dont weigh myself every day, but I do weigh myself once a week. It helps to keep me positive.

Due to certain health restraints (fibromyalgia, hypoglycemia, arthritus in hands, feet, and hips) there are days when I simply cant get out of bed. I rest when I need to, and workout when I want to. And eat what I want. By telling myself I can do whatever I want, I find I'm more proned to workout and eat smarter, by not limited myself. And its worked for me. That's the key - find what works for you. And congrats to all those who have lost weight, are getting healthier and fit!!! Its a winning battle. You just gotta keep fighting.

230 down to 165? Wow!! Congrats!

You found the same thing that works for me: watch what you eat and get active. Good luck on getting to your goal. From the sound of it it won't be too difficult for you at all.

^^^ Yeah!! What he said!!!
230 to 165 in about 10 months is about perfect! Slow and steady wins this race hun From the sound of it, you've got that figured out too... if you make the right changes, it's a lot easier to lose weight and keep it off for good as opposed to the hellish yo-yo tendency of 90% of the population. Way to go and keep it going! Those last 10 are the hardest, especially in the coming colder months. I know I'd rather hibernate than hop on the treadmill

Ain't that the truth! Thank goodness for the dogs we have- they expect their daily walk and they don't care how cold or rainy or windy it is. They've really been a big help keeping me off my butt.

Default Quick update

The short story is I have lost about 30 lbs. this time around for a total of 55 lbs. lost. I am entering the next phase of my "body shaping" now trying to gain weight I am 5'10 and down to 165, would like to be 175 at around 10% body fat. To do this I am eating almost all meat and vegetables, no calorie restriction (I have a hard time getting 2200 calories a day when eating 4-6x a day so that is not an issue) and making sure I have around 170-200g of protein a day. I have also started crossfit this week. Crossfit is kicking my butt, but should be well worth it!

Keep it up everyone!

Your weight gain and loss all depends on your calorie intake vs. calorie outtake. By limiting your calories by just 100-200 per day, you will start to lose weight. Exercise burns more calories allowing you to eat more calories to stay the same weight, or to eat the same amount and lose weight. It's pretty basic. Vitamins and such don't have any difference on your weight, just your health.

I doubt anyone will argue that.

I am a fan of supplements though. Taking vitamins etc. and keeping yourself healthy goes a long way to keeping someone on track. If I am deficient in something and feel sleepy for example, chances are I will not get up and go running as willingly as if my body is getting what it needs and I feel strong. Also keep in mind most people don't restrict 100-200 calories/day when they diet. Most of the people I know go 300-500 (1 lb of fat = 3500 calories = 500/day for 1 lb. of fat loss per week), and if you are at a caloric deficiency, chances are your body is not getting everything it needs in order to feel energized, which is where the supplements come in.

But as I mentioned, you are correct. It's all about intake vs. output.

I've been wondering lately, now that winter is creeping in, what some of you do to keep the weight off? I find myself becoming more sedentary from my dislike of the cold and usually put on 5-8 lbs thru the winter. What do you do when you can't (or won't) get outdoors as much as you used to?

Well, I guess I'm one of the "lucky" ones with my eating/working out schedule. I've found that the only way to maintain my weight is to actually work out every day (thanks to a computer job = sitting all day, odd hours, etc). So regardless of what the weather is like outside, it's cardio every day for 30 minutes, and weights every other day as well. It's actually a little easier for me in the winter months to work out, since it's dark when I get home from work and I don't have the temptation to sit outside drinking beer after a long day of dealing with users with ID 10-T errors

Honestly I could say that all of us need more excercise, but time is not enough, family time, so, the best way to loose some weight is a balanced diet and healthy food.
