Thumbs up Daylight Saving Time (DST) Changes

Daylight Saving Time (DST) Changes

Starting spring, 2007, the start and end dates for daylight-saving time will change in the United States. This change is part of the United States Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Traditional daylight-saving time start date: April 1, 2007
New daylight-saving time start date: March 11, 2007

Traditional daylight-saving time end date: October 28, 2007
New daylight-saving time end date: November 4, 2007

Note: DST is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Arizona.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME AND COMPUTER GLITCHES
Some people may forget to change their clocks for daylight saving time. But computers and other gadgets are usually programmed to change automatically.

But this year, you could run into some hiccups. Why? Daylight saving time starts three weeks earlier and ends a week later. Programs that adjust automatically for daylight saving time may need patches.

So start planning, especially if you own a business. Vista won't require a patch, although XP will. Microsoft plans to make the patch available in early March. For other programs and gadgets, check the manufacturers' sites.

If you have XP, and have automatic update turned on, you should receive the patch through your regular update patching.

If you own a business...you may want to check into any applications running Java. We have been pushing out the DST patches for 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5 of java.

Also, any Unix servers you have will have to be patched as well, including Linux.

It's a big change, and has caused my group at work some personal heartaches. Times like this when you find out which people in your ocmpany understand the apps they run, and which don't. LMAO

Daylight savings time is stupid, always has been.

The rest of the world laughs at us because of it.

Going thru the pain now of patching all our systems. Something's sure to get missed though. Makes me wish everybody just used GMT for everything. Feels almost like Y2K all over again.

Some things I can see needing patched. However, most can get thru just be re-setting the clock on the bios upon boot up. You'll have to do it twice (new DST and then when pc automatically does it, do it back again). Takes all of a few seconds.
All the pc workstations at work get their time from the server so all thats needed is the server adjustment. Really not much of a big deal.
I hope the media don't hype it up like they did for the year 2000. Geez, dinosaurs warring on distant planets and the big dipper might overflow!!!

Lucky...

You left out the Hoosier state, which has its own unique time system. It's the only state split between two time zones.

I got the update for Mac OS X today, so I'm all set.

I'm really happy to see this happening earlier this year. I would MUCH rather have the extra daylight in the evening.

Alaska should be.
The entire state is on Juneau time, and it SHOULD span 3 time zones.

Really funky getting a late sunrise and a "normal" (for a Californian) sunset.

Right now, Juneau is having a 7am sunrise and 5:20 sunset... Anchorage is an hour behind... 8am sunrise and 6:20 sunset. Nome is at 9:17am and 7:13pm.

Yes, it does. Only the whole thing is compacted, since most of the patches have been out a month or so.

More importantly, the clock on my motorcycle is already set at DST. I never change it. I don't because it should be wrong as often as the rest of my gauges.
