Ridin' with a Black Leather Vest?

Okay...I don't know if this topic ever came up, but whyyyyyy do I see so many rider wear this vest? Is it a rule? regulation? a must have? For meeeeee, I think it looks cheeeesy and corny....wouldn't caught dead wearing one. Heck, I would look ugly wearing one Comment?

i wear mine for many reasons.

its a great place to put my wallet and cell phone
it helps protect from bug impact on teeshirt material (some of them hurt)
it is a place to put my pins that commemorate certain rides
it helps keep a wet tee shirt on a hot day wetter longer thus increasing the wet tee shirts cooling power (this is my most recent addition to my list)

there are others, those come to mind

Leather vests, for whatever reason, have become the "de-facto" place to show off all your patches of where you're ridden and events you've attended in your days. Other than that... I'm going to have to go with the "bad guy leather that doesn't melt you in warm weather" explanation.

I guess the majority wears vest to protect their nips....and to display pins. The way I look at it, get a beer bottle cap and tape to your nips...and do becareful wearing those pins, it does get hurts getting poke accidently

I just like leather. I got chaps, a black leather jacket and black square toe leather harness boots as well. No patches, no pins yet.

I just recently purchased a nice leather jacket from a store in Virginia City Nevada for $20. It's my first official piece of gear, next to my helmet. I used to have a nice leather vest, have to see if it's still at my parents house...
It would be great for riding when that time comes...

I just bout a vest over Memorial Day weekend. It helps with the bug impact pain tremendously, which is the main reason I bought it. We were riding 4 days through the mountains of Arkansas and there were plenty o' bugs.

When I lose the rest of my weight, I'm going to have to get me a vest. My pins look a little silly on my mesh jacket.
